We are thrilled to announce that gallery artists Carl D’Alvia and Lizzie Gill are included in “The Aldrich Decennial: I am what is around me”, the museum’s inaugural recurring survey featuring artists who live and work in Connecticut!⁠

As the state’s only institution exclusively dedicated to contemporary art, this series will spotlight current artists and practices emerging from Connecticut. None of the featured artists will have had a solo museum exhibition in Connecticut, and all works will have been created within the last decade. Modeled after other major museum series, this exhibition will showcase the breadth of artists’ practices and present an opportunity for artists at varying stages of their careers within the state. The dynamism of Connecticut’s landscape has long provided a respite for artists who have chosen to work outside the pressure and expense of major metropolitan art centers like New York or Boston. As rents continue to increase, this trend has accelerated. Diana Bowes Chief Curator Amy Smith-Stewart and Curatorial and Publications Manager Caitlin Monachino conducted over 100 studio visits to understand the tenor of creation across the state.⁠

“The Aldrich Decennial: I am what is around me” will be on view at The Aldrich from June 7, 2026, to January 10, 2027, and will be accompanied by a catalogue.⁠

D’Alvia’s bronze, marble, and post-pop resin sculptures range from the abstract and geometric to the figurative and anthropomorphic. His work often explores dichotomies such as minimal/ornate, hard/soft, animate/inanimate, and comic/tragic. ⁠

Today is the last day of EMILY HARTER's solo presentation at MINOR ATTRACTIONS

HESSE FLATOW is pleased to participate in this year's iteration of Minor Attractions in London with a solo booth of drawings by Bay Area artist Emily Harter. This marks the gallery's first international art fair participation.

Emily Harter (b. 1997, Baltimore MD) adopts the visual languages of Dutch Genre Painting and the golden age of American cartooning to investigate contemporary attitudes and concerns through the lens of history, allegory, and humor. While Harter’s paintings offer larger scenes that encompass small narrative vignettes, her works on paper allude to her process of collecting, sorting, and refiguring images. Harter follows pathways in her mind which tumble and lead her from one reference, one thought, one text, one image, one song to the next. Harter describes this process as not meditative but rather an act of processing. Through considering what links all of these datapoints, Harter makes discoveries and finds parallels that may not have been considered before. In Harter's own words "Why do these pictures rhyme? I hold onto them so I might figure it out later, when I draw to consider the question in gesture and line."1
