The Slàinte Session continues the Dempsey's Irish Traditional Music Session legacy every Tuesday night. It is NYC's Longest Running Open Session (that does not mean it is a "beginner's" session by the way; it simply means ALL are welcome). It is as much about building a community as it is about anything else. This session continues in the lineage of The Eagle Tavern, The Gloccamora, and then Demps
ey's on to, now, Slainte. We are talking about a time span there of over thirty years. As the Dempsey's / Slainte piece of that closes in on a quarter century, we have seen other sessions come and go, some claiming to be unique in what they do, while this session has been doing it for a very long time. In April 2016, the session was relocated around the corner to Tom O'Bryne's other pub, Slàinte, at 304 Bowery, Manhattan. JULY 2021 UPDATE:
The Slàinte Session returned on JUL 27, 2021 and it was a smashing success!! The intention is to have the session continue to be the “open” session that has served the “rank and file” traditional musicians for so very long now. There will be a “point man” (or point woman!!) leading the session each week. upcoming leader schedule:
