Growing up, grade school lessons suggested that George Washington didn’t smile due to the poor condition of his teeth caused by disease and inadequate dental care. We were led to believe his dentures were fitted with wooden teeth. However, this is a myth.

In reality, the teeth in his dentures were far from wooden. The upper row was crafted from ivory, as well as cow, horse, and hippopotamus teeth. Shockingly, the lower row consisted of teeth sourced from American slaves.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the latest installment of my series, Black Wall Street: A Case for Reparations, curated by Cheryl & Christopher Mack, founders of the Bridge Art Gallery, in partnership with The Firmament Gallery at the Nimbus Arts Center.

Join artist Ajamu Kojo, curators Cheryl & Christopher Mack and Nimbus Artistic Director Samuel Pott for the opening of Black Wall Street: A Case for Reparations. The event is open to the public with wine, soft drinks and hors d’oeuvres served. Special Guest Jason Samuels Smith, virtuoso tap dancer performs an improvisational set. The Nimbus Arts Center will be announcing their Fall Season events and performances! Don’t miss it!

Kojo’s ongoing series takes the story of the 1921 Tulsa, Oklahoma Massacre and the havoc it wrought on the Black community in the Greenwood District, known as Black Wall Street, as its centerpiece. Kojo presents a spiritually uplifting dedication to the people who called Greenwood their home over a century ago.

Fannie Lou Hamer (October 6, 1917 – March 14, 1977) was an American voting and women's rights activist, community organizer, and a leader in the civil rights movement. She was the co-founder and vice-chair of the Freedom Democratic Party, which she represented at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Hamer also organized Mississippi's Freedom Summer along with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She was also a co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus, an organization created to recruit, train, and support women of all races who wish to seek election to government office.

Dedicated to exhibiting international artists from the African Diaspora — Prizm returns to its long awaited in-person format with its 10th edition, taking place from November 29th to December 4, 2022 at 4220 N. Miami Ave in the Design District. PRIZM 2022 will also be available for online viewing to the public November 29th through December 12th via PRIZM.ART and ARTSY. Prizm Panels, Perform and Film Programs will be hosted at the Little Haiti Cultural Arts Center on Wednesday November 30th, and Saturday December 3rd, from 11 am - 4pm.

To celebrate our 10th Anniversary year, curated by William Cordova, Marie Vickles, and , Prizm presents Vernacular À la Mode, with presentations by select galleries and artists exploring how vernacular modes of artmaking originating in global African contexts have influenced the cultivation of fine art practice worldwide.

Our holistic program will include four sections: Prizm Panels, Prizm Perform, Prizm Film, Prizm Preview, and, of course, Prizm Art Fair at large, exhibiting international artists from Africa and the global African Diaspora. Artists will represent global locales including, Barbados, Kenya, Martinique, Portugal, Saint Croix, Saint Martin, Uganda, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, and many more.

Prizm 2022 will traverse Miami’s urban Core with our Main Fair located in the Miami Design District at 4220 N. Miami Ave and our Global Caribbean Pavilion Satellite located at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in partnership with the Little Haiti Cultural Center and the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance.

As a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829 IATSE, a few months back I had the distinct pleasure of creating this painting as a recurring prop for the Hulu series ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING (Season 2). If you find yourself with some free time between the downfall of mankind, take a moment to decompress in the abyss of fantasy murder mystery.
