In association with UNICEF, BST brought uplifting performances and workshops to seven Kosovar refugee camps in Macedonia in response to the war in Kosovo.

The 90’s came with its ups and downs, including a stock market crash at the very end of the 80s leading to Reagenomics, and the Obscenity Laws. Bond Street Theatre was inspired to create “Nightmare On Wall Street” during this era of the nation’s economy, and was, at the same time, looking for shows that could take them outside of the country. “Nightmare On Wall Street” toured all around Europe, including both East and West Berlin just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. With this street performance piece, Bond Street Theatre was the first to legally perform politial street theatre in East Berlin, and had to go through quite the bureaucratic process to do so!

We’re starting our first of the decade to 1990, Berlin: Bond Street Theatre became the first theatre company to legally perform politcal street theatre in East Berlin in 50 years. The company performed “Nightmare on Wall Street”, a critique of capitlism, in a freshly opened country, performing in both East and West Berlin just after the wall came down.

Meet Esther and Chloe, Bond Street Theatre’s Summer Interns! Both from Manhattan, New York, Esther is pursuing a B.A. in Politics and Theatre at Mount Holyoke, and Chloe is pursuing a B.A in International Affairs and a minor in Chinese at Lafayette College.

Esther and Chloe are both interested in how Bond Street Theatre has approached the intersection between international affairs and the arts over the last five decades. They have already been a tremendous help in getting our ducks in a row for our 50th birthday bash in and amongst all the grant research, communications and social media help.

STILT BAND RECAP: The BST BFGs (big friendly giants…on stilts) have been out and about! 🎺

This past June, Bond Street Theatre's Shinbone Alley Stilt Band performed around NYC! June 7: The band participated in the 31st Street Avenue Open Street Collective, an event full of food, music, games and fun! June 12: The Stilt Band stopped by P.S 29's block party to perform two sets for the neighborhood! June 28: Last but not least, Montague Street BID wrapped up the season with family fun, dance performances, and- of course- 2 sets from The Shinbone Alley Stilt Band. Thanks to all who joined the band around the city this past month! 👯

New York, 1980: BST ensemble members perform Kafka’s ‘The Hunger Artist’ at LaMama. The company re-mounted the production years later to continue exploring the themes and the story of a public artist who performs fasting. As Joanna says, “Look at that form!”
