Our Bandshell centennial celebration continues on August 1st!

Our final world premiere fanfare is composed by Milica Paranosic and will be performed by The Westerlies. 🎺

First up next week: a world premiere fanfare by Milica Paranosic at Naumburg Orchestral Concerts - Since 1905 on August 1st! Entitled “Tiha Voda Breg Roni,” or “Quiet water wears down a shore” this piece was commissioned for this very occasion. Come for the fanfare, and stick around for a program of Mozart, William Grant Still, Eleanor Alberga, and Josef Suk by ECCO - East Coast Chamber Orchestra!

👉 The critically acclaimed ECCO is a collective of dynamic like-minded artists who convene for select periods each year to explore musical works. Drawing from some of the world's finest orchestras, chamber groups, and young soloists, ECCO performs concerts of the highest artistic quality.

👉 Formed in 2011, The Westerlies are “skilled interpreters who are also adept improvisers” (NPR’s Fresh Air). The ensemble explores jazz, roots, and chamber music influences to create the rarest of hybrids: music that is both "folk-like and composerly, lovely and intellectually rigorous” (NPR Music).

Yoko Ono fans near the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park to celebrate her 90th birthday, in New York, February 18. Kathimerini English Edition Yoko Ono Central Park Naumburg Bandshell, Central Park

At 90, Yoko Ono has outlasted her detractors, just as she more or less predicted she would in “Yes, I’m a Witch,” a defiant song she recorded in the 1970s.

“To commemorate her 90th birthday on Saturday, more than 50 artists and fans gathered at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park to take part in “Morning Piece for Yoko Ono,” a 1960s-style art happening that doubled as a celebration.” The New York Times

She has made it long past the days when she was vilified. In a ’60s-style happening in Central Park, fans sang and danced for an artist whose critical reputation is on the rise.

The Eurasian eagle-owl, apparently let loose from the Central Park Zoo by a vandal, three weeks ago, is making new fans every day.

As we enter the holiday season, with all of its joy and whimsy, I’m happy to share a joyful and whimsical performance moment from 2019, of my “Fictional Migrations” (featuring fake bird songs I made up!). Here are The Knights giving the debut performance of the orchestral arrangement of this piece, commissioned by them and recorded at Naumburg Orchestral Concerts - Since 1905 in June 2019.

Saturday at 7pm EDT, WQXR's "New York In Concert" radio broadcast will include the first movement of the Beethoven Violin Concerto that The Knights (led by my buddy Eric Jacobsen) and I had the pleasure of performing at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park in June. Hope you can tune in!
Did you miss our summer debut with Naumburg Orchestral Concerts in Central Park this July? Fear not! You can tune in LIVE to WQXR tomorrow, September 18th, at 7PM EST to hear Music Director Richard Egarr, the Orchestra, and soprano Rowan Pierce performing songs by Henry Purcell.

Click below for more info:

To mark the last Saturday of summer, WQXR will feature The Knights and Gil Shaham’s performance of the Beethoven violin concerto from our Naumburg Orchestral Concerts - Since 1905 performance in June. Listen live at 7pm tomorrow at www.wqxr.org - or stream the program anytime at the link below!
It's been 5 years since Nobu performed in Central Park, New York. How the world has changed! This 2016 instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BHQz0w0gxlg by the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts - Since 1905 came up as the top post today, and it's one that escaped my attention at the time. The accompanying striking photo shows the packed crowd seated under a night sky, as Nobu and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra performed on stage in Central Park. It is true: we don't know what we'd miss till it's gone. More about the concert at http://mlliu2006.blogspot.com/2016/06/nobuyuki-tsujii-orpheus-chamber_19.html
Enjoy this luscious clip of The Knights' 2018 performance of Anna Clyne's Within Her Arms, featured on Saturday's program at the Clark Art Institute, and imagine yourself relaxing in the beautiful Berkshires next to The Clark's reflecting pool. We hope you can join us on Saturday for this free and outdoor program curated alongside the Clark's Visions of Norway exhibition! No reservations required.

New York City’s 2021 Naumburg Orchestral Concerts - Since 1905, held each year in Central Park’s iconic outdoor bandshell during the summer, has come to a close | The final concert of the season featured the ECCO - East Coast Chamber Orchestra, a democratically‐run, self-conducted chamber group of young musicians, colleagues and friends coming together with pianist Shai Wosner | The Naumburg Orchestral Concerts have been promoting promising young talent in New York City since 1905, with free dusk performances in the park
It was a magical night. Thank you Naumburg Orchestral Concerts for having us back to play! Shai Wosner took our breath away. And NYC thank you for coming out - what an incredible connection we felt last night! We’ve been longing for this moment ❤️
