I started a new job yesterday as the inaugural Artist Curator In Residence for at ✨ My first day was very full-circle as I moderated performance discussions for .funaki_ ‘s W&P show. Naomi has performed in my work for many years, and now she’s developing her own choreographic voice.

I’m grateful for this new curatorial role… I still love being a performer and making things, but it’s equally gratifying to support other artists in their journeys, and this new gig will let me do that in greater ways.

(Also, Aria! Yay!)

Snippets from tour with  a couple weeks ago — Palm Desert , Sarasota , Fort Worth ,and Scottsdale .musicfest

Conrad and I have been touring Counterpoint on-and-off for five years (!!), and I’ve learned a lot about myself as a dancer, the concert format, and music-making as a percussive dancer over that time. The set list has stayed relatively stable, but the show changes with each set of tour dates. I *feel* more and, when I feel more, the audience shares in that experience with me.

It’s also really cool to bring live music audiences to dance and concert dance audiences to chamber music. My favorite things I heard from attendees this round: “I’ve just never seen anything quite like that.” and “That was... Crazy!”

Thanks to all who came - next Counterpoint tour dates are this summer ❤️

Reflecting on 2025... pt. 2/2

1. Reflecting on 2025... The internet thinks I teach at  all the time, but it’s really, like, 3-4 times a year! But it’s always a joy. Since I don’t teach in NYC that often, I’ve often bottled up fun bits of choreography and concepts that I’m eager to share with tap students. In 2026, I’ll be on the same slow-drip schedule next year (upcoming class is Monday, January 26th), but here’s one of my favorite combos from the past year :-)

2. It was a great joy and honor to curate  , with 16 dancers from Korea coming to New York City for a first-of-its-kind weekend of performances, workshops, and social dances in partnership with Korean Cultural Center, 92NY, Lincoln Center, and Steps on Broadway. They even made the cover of the NYT Arts section! Here’s to more opportunities to celebrate Lindy Hop’s long-lasting impact on worldwide dance culture.

3. The return of A Very SW!NG OUT Holiday. I love this people, I love these people, and I’m so proud of how long we’ve been running this show. Four years! Four seasons in NYC! 22 touring cities! And many more, it seems. Love to everyone involved, but especially the Braintrust ( ,  ,  ,  ), our Showrunner ( ), and our team of support at  including  and

Reflecting on 2025… pt. 1/2

1. I began this year in Korea with some of my favorite dancers in the world, teaching, performing and judging at the final edition of  . For the occasion, Nathan ( ) and I made a duet that we had talked about on-and-off in concept. “Blue Skies” ended up being one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. I’m so grateful for the friendship and inspiration of  and Team Sweetheart. I love the Korean Lindy Hop scene, and I hope to return someday soon. Sneak peek in 2026: this duet will return to NYC for some performances :-)

2. and I took our duo concert, “Counterpoint”, to eight cities: Boston, Vancouver, Seattle, Beaver Creek, Aspen, College Park, San Luis Obispo, and Stanford. We’ve been touring this project on-and-off for five years, and it (somehow!) never gets old. I’m so grateful to Conrad for our many years of artistic partnership... And I’m glad we’ll be back on tour in 2026. Catch us in Palm Desert, Sarasota, Forth Worth, and Scottsdale in February!

3. and I returned to our duo collab! We played  with special guests  and .m.blount , taught at  , and played four lovely shows at  this fall. There’s something special about the collab with Nic - something sparkly and playful and deep in each improvised performance. Very glad that this project will continue into 2026 (and beyond...)

.show has been honored with three nominations! The “Braintrust” ( , , , and ) and I are thrilled 🤩

These nominations seem to resonate with some of our primary goals of this work: to give a platform to Lindy Hop & Vernacular Jazz’s most eminent present-day practitioners (like !), to uplift a history of artistic excellence within these idioms (like our re-staging of Frankie Manning’s Big Apple Contest choreo!), and to contribute new ideas to the conversation (like ‘s new compositions and arrangements!).
show had its premiere in Fall 2021, but our first conversations for the project were in Spring 2018. As we prepare for our next week-long run at our “home” , , I’m having a true moment of gratitude to all folks onstage, behind-the-scenes, and in the audience whom have contributed to the success of this project. Thank YOU ❤️

If you haven’t seen SW!NG OUT yet, come join us next week for A Very SW!NG OUT Holiday at The Joyce, Dec 9-14

Happy Pride!

I came out to social-media-y’all as non-binary nearly 5 years ago, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I consider(ed) myself someone who’s reasonably comfortable with being uncomfortable so, for a long time, I didn’t feel that addressing the discomfort of being perceived as a boy/man was worth considering…

But “need” is a tricky word. Are happiness and comfort things I need? I was doing okay in my masquerade… but I am happier, more comfortable in my skin, and feel so much more like myself with since coming out.

The term, non-binary, sometimes irks me because it can sound so clinical or theoretical… When asked by folks to elaborate what “non-binary” means to me, I often say “Well, I’m not a man… or a woman.” And non-binary is our most popular nomenclature.

And I identify this way because I feel it clearly within myself. While I *do* believe that dissolving the rigid gender binary would be beneficial to people of all genders, I don’t identify as non-binary because of a philosophical/political belief… I identify this way because, simply, it’s who I am, and being a more honest version of myself feels better.

Many people have asked me, “When people misgender you, does it upset you?” The short answer is “yes”, which is enough reason for people to try their very best to address folks accurately. (Yes, mistakes happen - it’s okay. But try!)

But I’d also like to express *why* it upsets me, mostly when people ignore non-binary folks or pretend we don’t exist (or cast us off as an ideologically-motivated stunt)… It makes me sad for *them* (no pun intended).

For those who deny, I think, “Where is this person’s curiosity for the experience of others? It must be sad to walk around this world with only an eye for the things that you’ve already identified. How will they discover new beauty?”

My hope for everyone, on the occasion of Pride and in the context of our ever-evolving world of beauty and chaos, is that we stay curious: about ourselves, about others, about why we feel/think the way we do. For me, life is more beautiful when we’re not scared to learn, to try, and to experience new things.

❤️🌈
