Congratulations to the 2025 Finalists of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for playwrighting. The annual award—the largest and oldest existing award of its kind—honors women+ playwrights working in English-speaking theatre.

Finalists: Barbara Bergin for Dublin Gothic, Hannah Doran for Meat Kings! (Inc.) of Brooklyn Heights, Amy Jephta for A Good House, Frances Poet for Small Acts of Love, Ro Reddick for Cold War Choir Practice, Jasmine Sharma for Pigeonhole, Jen Silverman for Regressions, DeLanna Studi for “I” is for Invisible, Else Went for Initiative, and Bess Wohl for Liberation.

The honor is the largest and oldest award recognizing women+ playwrights.

PUTTING THE LADIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Organizations That Focus on Professional Theater Women
Friday, October 10, 2025, at 5:00pm ET

In the room: LYNNIE GODFREY, president and CYNTHIA STRAUS, board member of the League of Professional Theatre Women; SHELLEN LUBIN, co-president of Women in Arts & Media Coalition; LAUREN YARGER of Gracewell Productions, co-founder of the new Connecticut Theatre Women Network. Meet these three passionate organizations and hear about their histories, their missions and the services and support they offer. All three are sister organizations with TRU and we offer reciprocal memberships and support. Is the need for these niche organizations as necessary as it once was? Are there still inequities in the way women are perceived and treated in our business? What progress has been made? What are their goals for the future, and have current politics affected those goals? How can we adjust?
