Tomorrow Thursday December 11th from 6-9pm at Parkville Art Gallery in Hartford - the opening reception for Focus Shift - featuring 11 artists in our 4500 sq ft exhibition space. I will be showing a series of 14 new paintings involving masks and clocks.

PAG is located at 1429 Park St, Hartford and the entrance is on Bartholomew. Parking in large lot across the street.

I will be featuring a new series of work based on ceremonial masks from around the world at Parkville Art Gallery this Thursday Dec 11 from 6-9pm. 11 artists come together in this 4500 sq ft gallery space for the opening of Focus Shift. PAG is at 1429 Park St in Hartford, 2nd floor, entrance is on Bartholomew. Free.

On Friday evening I will be part of a STELLAR group show at the amazing Van der Plas Gallery at 156 Orchard St. in the Lower East Side. I hope to see some of my okd school LES compadres there 🔥

🍁 Opening Reception - this Sunday, October 19 from 2-4pm 🍁

at the adorable, historic Saltbox Gallery in West Hartford. “Portraitecture” is a survey of 30 paintings by some of my portrait students and myself over the past 3 years of teaching at West Hartford Art League.

Special thanks to Carol Ganick for connecting me in the first place and of course to Roxanne Stachelek for making the place what it is and her successor Kristina Oschmann for carrying the torch. I have learned a lot.

For the readers, this is the description of the exhibit:

“Portraitecture” covers the last few years of student work in Zito’s portrait course where artists of all levels delve into the foundation and structure of a face, building it from the ground up. “In teaching this class, I’ve developed a simple language for constructing a solid and expressive portrait,” says Zito. “We start with a ‘potato’ - a general, earth-toned face shape - and through a series of planned and measured steps we create ‘anchors & bridges’ from one feature of the face to the next. Through the architecture of proportion, we inevitably expose the hand of the artist and its innate ability to express a certain emotional capacity of the person portrayed.” This exhibition displays a cross-section of the unique phases of discovery and fruition unearthed during the learning process.
