It is committed to carefully tracking the ever emerging technological moment alongside artists who wrestle with the conditions that this moment presents. This task requires a constant reconsideration of disciplinarily, forms of knowledge and representational modes. YveYANG is eager to see the practice of art in turn generate its own technologies that shape the world and our perception of it. We believe great art is not just embellishment, but rather is an essential act that inspires the progression of human history.

In 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘢, Anderson monumentalizes an old photograph of her mother at ten years old. Through direct, wet-into-wet brushwork and a muted palette that appears yellowed by time, the painting registers the child’s perceptiveness without resolving her inner life, holding the image between photographic record and memory.

In 𝘈𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘦 (𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘴), black ground and muted palette suggest an image washed out by passing years, or by the glare of repeated scrutiny. Translated from photograph through wet-on-wet brushwork, the striped clothing becomes a formal structure, holding the figure together as the image gives way to paint.

Stretched across a narrow, two-meter-tall canvas, the familiar subject emerges from a dense black ground through direct, wet-into-wet brushwork.

Happy birthday to Sam Ghantous.

Looking back at installations of Sam’s work over the years, as we celebrate his practice and everything still to come.

We are also pleased to share that 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘎𝘗𝘜 will soon be presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, on view September 12 through October 18. More details to come.
