EXHIBITION CONCEPT:
Anthropocene is a term often used to describe a new geological epoch in which humanity becomes a planetary force of change. It appears in scientific and social discourse, especially when referring to the accelerating geophysical and biochemical changes that characterize the 20th and 21st Centuries.
The word stems from ancient Greek anthropos = human and kainós (cene) = new, characterizing an era when human activity rivals major natural forces.

The exhibition, in various media, from abstraction to abstracted representation, addresses, comments on, and evokes a delicate situation and the challenges and difficulties that stem from this new era of human impact and intervention on our planet and beyond.

WHAT:
The exhibition emphasizes science, earth and plant-based work, environmental work, organic mediums, minerals, process work, assemblage, collage, recycled/upcycled work, mechanical work, hybrid works and more.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 | 5:30–7:30 PM

Press Release:
Lichtundfire is pleased to announce and welcome all to an Exhibition Walk Thru and Reception for ORACLE, on the occasion of Armory Art Week, marking the start of the fall season 2026 in NYC.

An oracle, in the ancient classical sense, comes from ancient Latin orare, to speak or to tell, and connotes a person or thing considered to provide insight, wise counsel, or prophetic predictions, most notably precognition of the future.

The exhibition brings together artists working both visually and conceptually with intuitive processes, visual predictions, concepts of foreseeing or foreboding, imaginative anticipations of future events, and interpretations of the past that reverberate into the future.

With a multitude of materials, processes, and techniques, stemming from the exploration of the theme and its impact on each artist’s medium and unique interpretation, the exhibition delves into a wide range of fields from astrology, mythology, alchemy, and ancient science to classical philosophy, poetry, and psychology.
