Vision

Aceso exists to bring balance, well-being, and connection in a disconnected, frantic world. By unleashing each individual’s creativity through the healing power of nature and the expressive arts, Aceso works to recover each person’s authentic self and reconnect to his or her life’s purpose. Aceso works to bring healing, deepen intra- and inter-personal understanding, and the joy of creation and play to promote healthy living. Mission
Aceso, named after the Greek goddess of the process of healing, brings mindfulness, embodiment, and creativity through various expressive arts practices inspired by nature to cultivate well-being, to increase self-awareness and build community. Aceso designs and facilitates expressive arts workshops, runs art and nature retreats on the Greek islands, and creates media such as books, photography, paintings, and nature-inspired products. Aceso uses powerful archetypes from Greek mythology and the Eastern Orthodox faith tradition to bring transformative healing, self-esteem, self-acceptance, and empowerment to individuals and groups. Services:
Unleash the power of an individual’s creativity in service to the healing process by organizing expressive arts workshops and events. Accessing one’s power of creativity has been proven medically and scientifically to promote well-being, accelerate healing, and serve overall as a positive psychological mechanism. These expressive arts include: writing and storytelling, poetry, journaling, memoir writing, book talks; drama and role play; visual art drawing, printmaking, sculpture; dance therapy and movement; music; and crafting; ecotherapy, nature walking and observing; Eastern Orthodox spirituality; aromatherapy through crafting of handmade infusions, natural cosmetics and soaps. Bring the creative, healing arts to underserved populations in need of the creative and healing process. These populations include: at-risk youth/teens, women and girls, the elderly, immigrants and refugees, the homeless and mentally ill, victims of trauma, hospital/hospice patients. Combine forces with other individual artists, teachers, workshop leaders and community and arts-based organizations for creative projects and events

Goals:
Aceso: Expressive Arts for Healing aims to organize workshops and events exploring different media of expressive arts geared to the specific needs of the target populations. These workshops are geared to:
Improve coping strategies and stress relief
increase mindfulness, reduce rumination and lessen reactivity and increase self-awareness
deepen self identity, authenticity, and understand patterns and choices
reduce internal and external conflicts by increasing empathy
create community and a sense of belonging
Increase civic engagement and social justice
enhance self-esteem, self-confidence, self-image, self-efficacy
introduce participants to the techniques and concepts of various expressive arts
create joy for the creative process

Today I have come home. After 55 years of walking this earth. To the little seaside village my ancestors worked the earth and sea. For a daughter of the Diaspora to feel home and at home in body mind and soul is no little thing. At home playing with the wind and the waves. Not afraid to be authentically me. It is never too late to be what you have always wanted to be. Free. I have made peace with the past, the pain the regrets. I am here full circle in the Cyclades not afraid to begin again. Grateful for life and all the storms and challenges it has brought. A good captain is known in the torments. Glory to God for all things.

Residing on Ios island you cannot
But be amazed by the energy and presence of its rock. They are geologically speaking some of the oldest stones on earth. This is why this land has a primordial quality to it. This is what inspired me with this piece Primordial. I have been reading the Book of Genesis for a theological class and the images of the deep calling into deep and other imagery of creation coincided with my stay here. My encaustic process has always had a certain archeological quality to it. The various layers possible with wax allowed me to bury the detritus and tiny rocks from my walks across the island. I have been drawn to surfaces the crevices the craters the ruptures and wax allows me the liberty to physically feel these textures. The random marks both artist and medium formed write a certain geological text of presence. Like an archeologist excavating the secrets and forgotten traces of life, however minuscule, encaustic plunges me into a study of the layers of history both psychic and physical. That’s the magic of this medium. Join me on the Cyclades in this newly launched art residency where you can dig deeper into this ancient and dynamic medium and expand your artistic practice. underway in the . September is ideal for creating here—not too hot not too cold—with enough sun and overflow of good vibes on the heels of summer. Quiet landscapes allow artists to just “be” prepare their own psychic panels for creation. With enough freedom to do your own thing but balanced with a schedule of demonstrations and technique explorations to feel productive too. There is something in the energy in this part of the world that makes creatives want to explore their creative urge. Our encaustic residency engages the whole person too: nature walks and daily swims in the bay to move the body, whenever possible farm to table Mediterranean food (so artists can focus on art) and excursions to the local art museum and galleries for inspiration. Plus we are partnering with museum for a dedicated gallery to showcase our residents. More info on the website.
