Meet Aja! Today's featured artist is the multi-talented Nourishment collaborator, Aja M. Jackson. Aja joined Nourishment for our first production in Colorado at The Fleming Mansion in April 2016. She has been an integral part of Nourishment ever since! Often wearing numerous collaborating hats, Aja elevates her role of lighting designer to the next level with Nourishment (Why Believe?). Come see what she's been up to using projections as lighting as well as catching her as a performing artist!

Originally from the Midwest, Aja is a Boston based lighting designer working in theater, opera, dance, and interdisciplinary immersive performances. As an alumni from the Johnny Carson School of Theater and Film (UNL) she graduated with a BFA in Theatrical Design and BA in Dance Performance, later receiving her MFA in Lighting Design from Boston University. Aja has designed for companies such as the American Repertory Theatre, The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival, Boston Center for the Arts, and the Boston Conservatory. She has also worked in production management with companies such as The Santa Fe Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Aja has been a part of Nourishment since its inception. Continuing this work of Nourishment holds a special place in her heart. Aja continues to push Nourishment's goal to make dance and other interdisciplinary skills palatable and attainable for all audiences.

Meet Jett! This week's featured artist is Jett Kwong, our musical director for Nourishment (Why Believe?). Jett became a collaborator in fall of 2016 and played an essential role in the creation of Nourishment (what does it feel like to grow up?) in BK 2017 and Denver 2018.

Jett Kwong is a vocalist, guzheng player, composer and filmmaker who has performed and worked across the world in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Getty Villa. Through her music, film, and curatorial blog, she explores having a mixed identity in a globalizing world. Sonically and visually influenced by a variety of sounds from different eras, Jett’s work is built from pieces of the past with an essence of the future. Her interpretation of both her family’s histories and the complexities of colonial history at large are tapped into with the use of the Chinese guzheng, strings, and strong vocal melodies, often in intimate and unique spaces for performance. Her upcoming EP Future is due this fall. 📷:
