We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Wordly to bring live AI translation to the theater industry. We are the first and only venue in the United States where this pioneering innovation is available for a live theater performance. Imagine a German, French, or Chinese-speaking tourist sitting in a theater and hearing the play in their native language, live and in real-time. This vision is now a reality.

Launching on Monday, August 26, The Theater Center will officially offer live AI translation for its performances of Perfect Crime: New York's Longest Running Play. Audience members can purchase a ticket, download a free app, and use their own earbuds or disposable ones provided by the theater to listen to the play in over 50 different languages at no additional charge. This innovative approach ensures that non-English speakers can fully understand and enjoy the show, breaking down language barriers and enhancing the cultural experience. Additionally, those who are hard of hearing will benefit from real-time captioned text, a significant improvement over the pre-programmed audio devices currently available in theaters.

"We are incredibly proud to be the first theater in the U.S. to incorporate live simultaneous translation into our performances," said Catherine Russell, General Manager of The Theater Center. "With Off-Broadway and regional theaters closing or facing financial hardship, this technology offers a new way to attract a larger and more diverse audience. This initiative underscores our commitment to making theater accessible to everyone, regardless of language."

Despite its widespread use in business meetings, church services, and universities, simultaneous translation had not yet been integrated into theaters—until now. In 2023, New York City welcomed 11.6 million international tourists, many of whom faced language barriers that prevented them from fully enjoying the city's rich theatrical offerings. This technology also benefits those who are hard of hearing, providing them with enhanced access to live performances. Over the past few weeks, The Theater Center has beta-tested this technology with remarkable success. Audiences who do not speak English, as well as those with hearing challenges, have been able to follow and enjoy the performances, demonstrating the system's effectiveness and its potential to attract a broader audience.

Matt is thrilled to be making his off-Broadway Debut! Select Regional Credits: Frederick in Young Frankenstein (Butte Theater), Gomez in The Addams Family (Wagon Wheel Theatre), Scott in Disaster (Arizona Broadway Theatre), and most recently Max in The Sound of Music (Milton Theatre). Training: University of Miami, BFA Musical Theatre. When not onstage, Matt gives walking tours of haunted and historic locations in Greenwich village. Singfeld! A Musical Parody About Nothing is thrilled to welcome Dustin Scully!

Born and raised in New York City, Dustin Scully is an actor, filmmaker, and puppeteer. Having made short films and sketches inspired by the irreverent humor of the show about nothing, he feels right at home performing this show with this incredible cast & crew. Aside from performing in Singfeld, Dustin spends his time doing magic, and performing as Grumbalo in his surreal comedic puppet show, Mr. Wood’s Safe Space. Credits include Sesame Street: The Musical (Off-Broadway) Four’s A Crowd’s HUSHPUPPY (seen on PBS), Beverly Sketch Comedy (The PIT).
