Dear Friends, Here is a large new painting I just finished titled Mariner’s Gate, after one of the twenty gates into Central Park.

I thought about a tiny 1820 composition by August Heinrich (Metropolitan Museum) for its masterful transitions from close to far to extreme close.

In this love letter to NYC, I wanted to evoke the transitions from midtown to park to river. I even abstracted from the steel trusses of the 59th St bridge.

Dear Friends,

Here is a new oil painting juxtaposed with a recent pencil tree drawing.

For me, meaning is generated as much from the reverie of seeing as from the transfer of energy that occurs when one color is placed next to another.

Art is the magnification of limitations. In the 80’s, I made dozens of these little sculptures using only the positive and negative shape of plastic cassette cases. Some very famous artists own them. Two are in a museum in California under my alias.
