Ettore Jose Vasquez Ettore José Vásquez was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He comes from a family of musicians.

Ettore José Vásquez is the new internationally figure, a voice for human rights, and an activist against oppressive governments. He dedicates his life for music and to use the power of his career to oppose the Venezuelan Nicolas Maduro's dictatorship. Following the brutal repression on February 12nd, 2014 and Chavismo (Chavez's consolidation of power) Vasquez refuse to perform in countries that of

ficially recognize the Maduro government, a decision that includes a refusal to play in Venezuela. Until his departure to another country in 2014, he made only one exception to only teach and to support to the new and young generations. Vasquez is trying to inspire harmony among people, using both the voice of his Viola and the power of his self-imposed silence.

La inspiración surgió después de que Billy Sprague viajara a Jerusalén y recorriera la Vía Dolorosa real (el camino que, según la tradición, recorrió Jesús rumbo a la crucifixión). Esa experiencia le impactó profundamente y lo llevó a escribir la letra.

Today, I had an important interview about the youth orchestras in Pittsburgh with the principal CEO, and it truly made me feel at home. Being surrounded by the Italian community—which feels like the heart of what built the city of Pittsburgh—was deeply moving. Over time, the newer generations have branched out into other fields, but that original Italian spirit still lingers.

Now I understand why my Uncle Joen has that accent and that old-school Italian style. Those Italians from past generations remind me so much of us—or maybe he just reminds me of them.

As for me, I can’t deny the impact my Uncle G*i, an Italian himself, had on my childhood. That’s why every time I reconnect with Pittsburgh, I feel a wave of nostalgia. Living among the Latino community in Dallas—so lovely and hardworking—has its own beauty. But the warmth of Pittsburgh, and of family, is truly priceless.
