to a night rooted in legacy. ✨
Earlier this summer, Century of Black Theater Making: Living Legacy Gwendolen Hardwick brought the room together through mentorship, artistry, and community. From scene readings and poetry from Hardwick’s work, to powerful performances by Dominique Morisseau, Claro de los Reyes, LaVonda Elam, and NSangou Njikam, every moment honored a career dedicated to creating space for Black and q***r artists.
The evening moved with intention, blending spoken word, music, and storytelling in a way that felt both grounded and uplifting. Hearing directly from artists she’s mentored, it’s clear that this is a legacy being lived in real time.
Looking back, the impact still resonates. In a time when we’re constantly asking where theater is headed, this night was a reminder that it is still alive, necessary, and shaping what’s next.
