Working Theater is moving into a new home at the South Oxford Art/N.Y. space. As Working Theater continues to evolve, this move gives our team more flexibility to dream, organize, collaborate, and make ambitious new work while helping us consolidate overhead costs to build a more sustainable future for the company.

More sustainability means a future where more resources are going directly into artists, audiences, and programming. More theater for working people. More opportunities to come together. More possibilities.

Stage Left 2026 is all we can think about.

This past weekend was all of our dreams for this play festival realized. A space for artists and workers to meet, tell stories, galvanize audiences, and uplift our community organizers out in the world. We just keep replaying the whole weekend in our head and being overwhelmed with gratitude.

National Q***r Theater’s Obie Award-winning Criminal Q***rness Festival (CQF) showcases groundbreaking new works written by artists from countries where q***rness is criminalized or censored. At a time when authoritarianism is on the rise globally, CQF elevates refugee, asylee, and immigrant q***r voices and enriches the cultural fabric of New York City by introducing audiences to bold, original works that challenge Western norms and inspire global change. This year’s festival includes LOUR’s musical Area D (directed by Osh Ashruf, June 10-June 13), Bazeed’s play faggy faafi Cairo boy (directed by Shadi Ghaheri, June 17-June 20), and E. Zaalan’s clown show Syrian Soap (directed by Tallie Medel for Criminal Q***rness Festival with original direction by Natasha Mercado, June 24-June 27). Use code NQTCOMMUNITY for a 20% discount!

A great stone falls from the atmosphere at 3 o’clock on 13 December 1795, plummeting into Emory Miller’s farm. In its wake come reports of fire and strange flashes of light. What happens next is the story of a townspeople divided, manipulated by fear and destitution at the hands of an increasingly wealthy few. A musical allegory for modern times, WOLD METEOR asks: What sacrifice will bring about change?
