Will you be next? Wondering how to get signed to a record label or get a record deal? Unfortunately, getting a record deal is much harder than it used to be. Around 15 years ago, things were much simpler. You could send off a half-decent demo to Universal music /Sony music and eagerly await their reply. Or, you could hope that one of their A&R scouts stumbles into one of your gigs and offers you a deal on the spot. But since the drastic increase in the number of unsigned musicians in 2008, record labels rarely sign artist with out a&r connections. The average major record label receives between 10,000 – 20,000 demo submissions a year from independent artists. An average of 700 demo's are send to this labels on daily basis making it impossible for yours to be handpicked from the rest. Depending on the size of their budget, each label can only sign around 5 – 40 artists a year. So as you can see, competition is ferocious! Of the lucky artists that break through and get a deal, most have connections with either the music agency or are simply paying a pr company to find them a deal. That is the key! If you want to get a record deal nowadays, you need to have connections and know someone working inside this major labels. So it's highly impossible to get a recording deal without proper connections.
