New York City Children's Theater

New York City Children's Theater New York City Children’s Theater inspires young people’s imaginations and supports social and emotional growth through original theatrical experiences.

The mission of New York City Children’s Theater is to promote children’s literacy and social development through accessible professional theater productions and arts-in-education programs. We reach children and their communities with a wide range of programming, including full-scale productions, small touring shows, interactive workshops and in-school residencies, and engage with them in traditional theater spaces, school auditoriums, classrooms and cultural venues in their neighborhoods. We demonstrate that engaging young people in the arts has a positive impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development, and furthers a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

It’s National Nonprofit Day, and we’re shining a spotlight on New York City Children’s Theater — a nonprofit that continues to innovate, expand, and champion arts access for NYC’s youngest audiences.

From original productions to literacy‑building workshops and trauma‑informed programs for children in shelters, NYCCT is shaping the next generation of storytellers and empathetic leaders. With a new brand identity and growing community partnerships, the future is bright.

If you believe in creativity, equity, and the power of the arts, NYCCT is a nonprofit worth celebrating today and every day.

Our students read Fatima’s Great Adventure, students brought a scene to life using shadow puppets, exploring the moments when the characters are startled by the show of a giant-seeming (but actually tiny) spider! By experimenting with light, shadow and size, students discovered how they could transform a tiny puppet into something larger than life.
