Snøhetta’s Shanghai Grand Opera House will officially open on October 17, 2026.

Now entering its final phase on the banks of the Huangpu River, the 146,786-square-meter complex is defined by a sweeping roof inspired by an unfolding fan. Its surface rises from ground level as a spiraling public staircase, leading to a rooftop plaza designed to remain accessible 24 hours a day, throughout the year.

Inside are three performance venues seating 2,000, 1,200 and 1,000 people, alongside restaurants, galleries, educational spaces, libraries and small cinemas.

The inaugural season will run until February 20, 2027, with 47 productions presented across 82 performances.

This designed performing arts centre is under construction in Abu Dhabi. Designed by Gehry before his death, Dar al Funoon is being built on Saadiyat Island for Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism.

The complex will include a multipurpose theatre with more than 2,000 seats, a 3,500-seat open-air amphitheater, a 400-seat studio theatre and a 250-seat jazz venue, providing a combined capacity of more than 6,000.

Works are expected to complete in 2030.

The building will join a number of other notable structures both existing and currently under construction in the area, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which was also designed by Gehry.

Rihanna turned one of her children’s drawings into a permanent tattoo — and fans are loving the meaning behind it 💜✨

In May 2026, Rihanna reportedly visited celebrity tattoo artist Keith McCurdy, better known as Bang Bang, in New York City and got a large abstract scribble tattooed on the back of her leg above the knee. The design wasn’t created by a professional artist, though. It was based on a colorful doodle made by her three children with A$AP Rocky 🎨

The original drawing was sketched on paper covered in Paw Patrol stickers and featured chaotic marker lines drawn by sons RZA and Riot along with their youngest daughter, Rocki. Rihanna chose to recreate the exact messy design in simple black ink, preserving every random line exactly how her children made it.

Many parents hang their kids’ artwork on the fridge for a few weeks. Rihanna decided to carry hers forever.

Fans online called the tattoo one of the sweetest celebrity parenting moments in recent years, saying it perfectly reflects Rihanna’s current “mom era.” Around Mother’s Day, she turned a simple family doodle into lifelong body art ❤️
