Join us on June 8 for an unforgettable evening honoring Mike Pratt, President and CEO of the Scherman Foundation, and celebrating playwright Aleshea Harris and the release of her film Is God Is, based on the play of the same name that premiered at Soho Rep in 2018. The night will feature amazing, one-night only performances and a festive party like only Soho Rep can throw!

In the words of Aleshea:
“Long before the honor of having my work produced at Soho Rep, I knew of the theatre’s reputation for supporting adventurous, groundbreaking artists. It was incredibly meaningful as an out-of-town, barely produced playwright to be shown such trust and belief in Is God Is. Years later, I can confidently say that Soho Rep sets the bar for how artists should be nurtured and how a season should be curated with care and rigor. What a thrill to be celebrated by one of the most vital institutions to our cultural landscape.”

Pictures from the concert performance of ’s The Potluck at Lincoln Center last year. We are so excited to bring you the full production with our partners at and directed by Sarah Benson.

In 1979, five labor organizers were murdered at a protest in the streets of Greensboro, NC, by members of the K*K and the American N**i Party. A year later, César James Alvarez was born into the survivor community and named for two of the victims. 37 years after that, César got a commission to write a musical about the Greensboro Massacre, but it turned into a show about ghosts… and capitalism…and how to recuperate from trauma that happened to you before you were even born.

The Potluck is a new musical featuring a 12 person intergenerational cast that conjures the soft side of the revolution, and tells a story about what to do when the government is actually trying to kill you.

We are thrilled to welcome THREE new board members to Soho Rep: Shayok Misha Chowdhury, Alexandra Alger, and Lloyd D’Souza!

Misha:
Soho Rep has been a creative home for me for more than eight years now. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today if Soho Rep hadn’t held space for me to take big risks. By joining the board, I hope to pay some small measure of that generosity forward: to help hold space for another generation of visionary theater-makers.

Alexandra:
I’m looking forward to supporting Soho Rep, which puts on some of the most exciting theater in NYC and is a singular home for artists. SR also happens to have a uniformly wonderful staff and board. The easiest decision ever.

Lloyd:
Live theater is more vital than ever for building community and I’m eager to join Soho Rep to help build and share in the bold, conversation-sparking stories that are so important to us now, especially in New York City.

🎉 Big announcement: New partnership with Civis Foundation and 3 New World Premieres!

At a moment when much of our field is constricting, we are honored to have been connected to the Civis Foundation, who shares our fundamental belief that pioneering works of art need pioneering support. Flip through the carousel to see the three productions supported through this cycle, and head to the link in our bio to read more in American Theatre Magazine.
