It's hard to believe, but the 67th season and our show HEY THERE, HOWDY, EVERYBODY! has drawn to a close. Thank you to all the teachers and schools who hosted us; the theater staff who made us feel at home in their spaces; the parents and chaperones who brought kids to a weekend/public show; and all our private and public sponsors who underwrote the season and made it possible for as many as 30,000 children in the TriState area to see a show, laugh, dance and sing with us, and be inspired! We're already planning next season, and hope you will make the Paper Bag Players a part of your school year or family outing. Check back at our website or email [email protected] if you want to start planning early for your in-school show or field trip!

A huge Thank You to the Department of Youth and Community Development, Council Member Christopher Marte, and the team at Cultural After-School Adventures who helped us bring two weeks of workshops to children at one of our partner schools on the Lower East Side. Kids learned to work with paper and props, drew stories and made plays, learned songs and dances, and wowed us non-stop with their creativity and imagination.

In honor of Earth Day, here's an archival photo of "Little Litter". In this lyrical dance piece, a street cleaner (artistic co-founder Judy Martin, center) tries to capture all the pieces littered by two elegant strangers (James Lally, right, and an unknown actor) before succumbing and being swept away by the giant pile of litter. (Photo by renowned photographer Martha Swope). Happy Earth Day, everyone!

"Tree Angel," the beloved storybook play by Judy Martin and Remy Charlip, with music by Donald Ashwander, is a perennial favorite that stretches all the way back to our Paper Bag Players roots in the late 1950s! (The black and white photo features early cast member/co-founders Charlip, Martin, Sudie Bond and Betty Osgood). Kids today react with the same thrill and excitement to the fate of the three trees escaping a woodchopper. There's still a chance to catch "Tree Angel" and other beloved sketches in weekday school shows and weekend public shows through the end of May.
