We create opportunities for under-represented artists and provide access to art in communities that are often excluded by bringing quality public art installations and programming to people where they live, work and engage with one another. As public art leaders we collaborate with artists, building their capacity and helping to move their projects through the approval process. Curating in the pub

lic realm we have a responsibility to the artists and to the community, the public art that we put there, even if it is only temporary is designed to reflect the community and to celebrate the creative culture that helps neighborhoods to thrive.

It’s about the eyes 👀 The exhibition of David Manousos paintings is on view The Gallery at 310 Riverside Drive (or at The Master Apartments) through October. If you don’t know about the gallery, check it out at the iconic Masters building, 310 Riverside. Enter on 103rd Street.

Second Nature pairs the work of Gwen Yip and spencer patrick Collective Z Gallery The gallery is just 6 months old and is consistently sharing interesting work from artists that are new to me.

Gwen Yip’s paintings comment on the anonymity that New Yorkers tend to love, while at the same time we enjoy the intimacy of shared experiences. Spencer Patrick does something similar but exaggerates the individual in a way that makes them the center of their own world.

Collective Z is at 325 Broome Street. The B or D train to Grand Street puts you 1 block away.

Everyone is invited to join environmental artist Susan Stair to celebrate her public artwork Birdwatching in the Boreal Forest. The installation features 4 mosaic panels that narrate the story of the bird species that migrate there. We will be on site on 170th Street between Broadway and Audubon Avenue, Tuesday August 25th from 5:00 - Sunset, 7:41 pm. Take the 1 or A train to 168th Street.

This event is cohosted by Art Lives Here founder Connie Lee . Coincidentally it is her birthday, your presence is the perfect gift.

I love the hand painted shirts by Thomas E. Heath and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of how this woman styled the shirt as a dress. I didn’t get her name but maybe Kai Like Fly knows who she is.

You can often find Thomas outside The Heath Gallery with a selection of hand painted shirts and a jacket or two.

I attended the opening last Thursday of Fiber Iterations Textile Art Gallery NYC If you didn’t see me that is because I was there before the crowds so that I could see the work and take a few photos. There is a lot of nice work to see with the hand of the artist visible which is the beauty of fiber art. These three soft sculptures stood out in a show featuring 53 artists.

I have to say that when the little ones took the stage alongside the professional dancers from the Matthew Westerby Dance Company, I was amazed at their ability to learn the choreography. The dance classes that the company provides at very little cost is an opportunity for the young dancers to experience the power of the arts. Classes start up again in September and take place at FSUMC/The Peoples Church in East Harlem.

Haleh Atabeigi, Conviction is a powerful exhibition Collective Z Gallery A tribute to the women in Iran’s political prison system. Swipe through to the group of small paintings which represent the crafts the women make which cannot leave Iran, I have my collectors eye 👁️ on one of these.
