Curated Public Art Gallery

Curated Public Art Gallery This page is about the artists, the artwork they create for the public realm and the collaborations we encourage.

We create opportunities for under-represented artists and provide access to art in communities that are often excluded by bringing quality public art installations and programming to people where they live, work and engage with one another. As public art leaders we collaborate with artists, building their capacity and helping to move their projects through the approval process. Curating in the pub

lic realm we have a responsibility to the artists and to the community, the public art that we put there, even if it is only temporary is designed to reflect the community and to celebrate the creative culture that helps neighborhoods to thrive.

Quilts from Carolyn Mazloomi’s collection are on view at Claire Oliver Gallery. Most have already been acquired by museums from across the country but what a treat to see them all in one place. My photos start with a close-up and then the full piece.

Joan Semmel at the Jewish Museum reminds me why I love paintings of the human body. The strength and vulnerability of humans are thoughtfully illustrated in Semmel’s n**e figures.

I had this recent acquisition of Carmen Isasi’s diptych framed at Amicus Framing and Gallery, I was drawn to this particular piece because the beauty lies in the artists ability to create a drawing that appears effortless. Simplicity is far more difficult than the eye allows the viewer to acknowledge. It will be on view in the Brownstone Gallery alongside consigned pieces and acquisitions that are part of the Art Lives Here inventory program.

I rarely go to openings but last night was an opportunity for me to see an artist who I am very fond of, Michael Wolf. has several pieces in a group show at Hollis Taggart Downtown including a new sculpture that is a little different than the work that I have been admiring and engaged with in the last few years. Check out the last photo to see Michael, his new piece and a lovely woman who echoed the aesthetic in her sense of style.

It was great to see you Michael. I will go back to visit the gallery before the show closes and spend some time with the work of the other artists in the show.

The exhibition of Manuel Canu is presented by AM Collective on the lower level at Chart Gallery in Tribeca. These are exceptional contemporary sculptures with historical references. I’m not sure how much longer this show is on view but if you’re in Tribeca this evening head over to 74 Franklin Street.
