The Music Building

A 12-story building with 69 monthly music rehearsal studios and 35 years of music history. Alumni include Madonna, The Strokes, Billy Idol and thousands more!
(259)

The most historic music rehearsal facility in NYC, The Music Building has been the creative hub of local musicians since 1979. With 69 rehearsal and recording studios and open 24/7/365, The Music Building is a mecca for those needing monthly rehearsal spaces. In the early '80s, a second Music Building opened in Jamaica, Queens. With about 100 studios, it had mostly hip-hop and heavy metal bands (including Metallica and Anthrax), but it burned down in the mid '90s.

Re-Post from the amazing Marcus Garrick Miller:

"Honored to have a quote and photo in Rolling Stone about the studio I practice and rehearse out of. Fun fact, this was Madonna ‘s room back in the day. Long history of culture here at Studio Chill NYC Thanks to the fam Gabe Kirchheimer for asking me to be a part of the article!"
