Phenomenal seventy-five year old interview with tenor Richard Crooks which I believe should be examined by any singer of classical based music hoping for a chance at making their living exclusively from singing. It contains so much important information I believe is still applicable today.

Richard Alexander Crooks (June 26, 1900 – September 29, 1972) was an American tenor and a leading singer at the New York Metropolitan Opera

Congratulations to David Blackburn, NYIOP, the entire international panel of casting representatives, the singers as well as all the people behind the scenes including the wonderful people at The First Church of Christ Scientist and Beethoven Pianos for making this casting session one of the best I've attended in recent memory.

Generally, the level of the singing was far ABOVE what I normally hear by singers presenting at the auditions and I've personally heard a lot of NYIOP sessions, more or less, for seventeen years.

Without divulging any specifics of the offers, I can say with complete honesty, that I personally witnessed between 7 and 10 preliminary offers, including inquiries of singer's availability, extended between houses and artist managers AS WELL AS WITH singers directly, WHO HAD NO MANAGEMENT.

I believe that the numbers I am sharing to be CONSERVATIVE as they were only the offers and inquiries I saw happen, directly. It was also clear that there was tremendous interest in singers that did not lead to actual offers on the spot but it appeared likely they may occur in the very near future.

Due to singer's schedule conflicts, negotiations, visas etc., the number of actual contracts executed may be slightly less but I doubt it. But make no mistake about it, real business was being conducted and those singers that were totally prepared, that presented the correct repertoire, correct fach, with artistry and technical integrity were noticed and taken very seriously.

I do hope that NYIOP, as well as the singers that received offers communicate that EXTREMELY important information to the international opera singing community via social media and networking at the appropriate time.

Congratulations, once again, to all who participated in the 2019 NYC NYIOP sessions, this week.
