Yesterday, I received a very special magic wand, so I just had to try it out and see if it worked! The wand was created from hundred-year-old wood taken from the walls of Houdini's home (during a recent renovation), by master craftsman Barry Spector. This is the first rabbit I've ever pulled out of my hat. (His name is Harvey!)

Tonight at 8, a very special event will be broadcast live on Facebook and other platforms -- Houdini and David Copperfield will be inducted into the "Only in America Gallery/Hall of Fame" at the National Museum of American Jewish History! Mr. Copperfield will induct Houdini, and then accept his own award. (The induction recognizes American Jews who have significantly impacted American society and culture. Past inductees include Golda Meir, Albert Einstein, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and Barbra Streisand, among others.)

To be auctioned tomorrow at Bonhams, here is an iron box that is said to have been used by Houdini for one of his escapes. It was also used in the 1953 movie HOUDINI with Tony Curtis, who was locked in this same box, which was then lowered into the icy Detroit River. When I was examining the box at Bonhams, one of the nice attendants there offered to lock me inside the box to see if I could escape. I answered, "Thanks very much, but I'm running late."

New York is so filled with show biz glamour and history that sometimes it even jumps out at you when you're window shopping. Case in point: an original steel milk can from which Houdini escaped, which I saw in the window at Bonhams Auction House! This escape was the precursor to Houdini's famous Water Torture Cell. He'd be padlocked inside the milk can, which was filled to the brim with water, and the audience would wait breathlessly to see if he'd escape or drown. (Guess what happened.) The auction is on Friday; presale estimate is $25,000-$35,000 if someone wants to buy it for me.

After its recent Theatre Row debut, the new production of HOUDINI was described as a “really fine, absorbing Houdini,” with “beautiful singing and such beautiful songs.” The musical was also named Critic’s Choice (Alex Miller) by All About Solo. In his review, Mr. Miller said “Mr. Frueh has the power to control a crowd, not unlike Houdini himself, and keeps us guessing what Houdini will do next.” HOUDINI is now booking performances through December, 2020!
