Editions: Prints and Drawings, April 30 - June 13, 2026

Skoto Gallery is pleased to present "Editions: Prints and Drawings," an exhibition that includes works by a diverse group of established and emerging artists, including Lula Mae Blocton, Fathi Hassan, Richard Hunt, Wadsworth Jarrell, Lester Johnson, Michael Marshall, BruceOnobrakpeya, and Uche Okeke. The opening reception is on Thursday, April 30, from 6-8pm.

The exhibition includes over three dozen works utilizing varied techniques such as lithography, woodcut, etching, serigraphy, and mixed media. Drawing remains the foundation of the show, offering unique insights into the formal and perceptual relationships between the artwork and the viewer. The collection highlights the personal expressiveness and experimental nature of printmaking featuring works by artists recognized for their contributions to sculpture, painting, and modern African art.

Lula Mae Blocton is known for her exploration of color transparency and geometric structure. Her work is held in the Columbus Museum of Art and The Mott-Warsh Collection, Flint Michigan among others. She will be featured in the upcoming Aldrich Decennial which opens June 7, 2026-January 3, 2027, at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT.

Uche Okeke (1933-2016): A pioneer of modern Nigerian art who utilized traditional Igbo Uli designs. A master of lyrical and sensitive lines, he uses resplendent curves and fluid lines to convey the true harmonies of his artistic vision. His work is in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Newark Museum. He is included in the ongoing exhibition “The New Humans: Memories of the Future” at the newly reopened New Museum, New York.

Bruce Onobrakpeya (b. 1932): A founding member of the Zaria Art Society whose innovative printmaking techniques have been exhibited at the Tate Modern and the Smithsonian Institution. He remains a central figure in modern African art for his guiding theory that "art should be an instrument to help develop and benefit the local,”
