Happy Solar Eclipse Day 2024! This rare miniature terrestrial globe, approximately 2.5 inches in diameter, was made in Paris in the late 19th century by the renowned geographer Pierre Émile Levasseur. It is held aloft by a winged cherub balanced on one foot atop a dome decorated with raised relief stars highlighted in gold. An impressive 18th-century engraving of a sunflower by Johann Weinmann continues the solar theme and heralds the coming of spring. More about both items at bit.ly/gallerysale or follow the link in bio.

Before there was an Internet, to learn more about solar eclipses you could consult "Smith’s Illustrated Astronomy," the most popular American pictorial astronomy guide of the mid-19th-century, with informative, attractive hand-colored woodblock prints. These four illustrate eclipses of the sun and moon. We have them in stock and they're on sale during April, so while the subject is astronomical, the prices are not.
