With Tree's Place – I'm on a streak! I've been a top fan for 8 months in a row. 🎉
I'm so honored to be singled out with this award, and I have many people to thank. First, I would like to thank Kevin and Hannah at The Tree's Place gallery for the beautiful exhibits. I want to thank my art teacher, and, of course, God, for without whom I may never have discovered art. 😉

Layering Autumn: See the Process at My Open Studio! My Open Studio is nearly here (October 11th-12th)!

I'm returning to this oil painting today, working with the intense sensory cues of autumn—the color and scent of the dried foliage is a vital part of the creation. I love how the energy of the season is building beneath the surface of the canvas. Join me this Saturday and Sunday for private tours where I'll be sharing the inherent motifs and stories behind my work. Stop by!

“In the exhibition titled Siren Song, this painting, Dreaming Venus by Leah Lopez, serves as a captivating cornerstone, beautifully embodying the exhibition’s broad themes of water goddesses and mythical feminine figures. While not a siren in the traditional sense, Venus, born from the sea, represents the primordial allure and powerfully femininity deeply entwined with the ocean’s mystique. Her tranquil form, adrift yet radiant amidst the moonlight waves, evokes the enchanting, almost hypnotic quality of a siren’s call — not one of danger, but of profound, ancient beauty and irresistible grace. The painting’s soft luminescence and the figure’s serene vulnerability create a dreamlike atmosphere, perfectly resonating with the idea of mythical women whose presence is as fluid and enigmatic as the water itself, drawing viewers into a world where divinity and nature merge in a timeless, captivating melody.”

Is the canvas a battleground or a stage? I think not. Occasionally it is a negotiation where the invited internal/external drama plays out. It sometimes feels like dancing with a partner you keep discovering. I like it when the physical act of layering oil paint to capture a bright highlight or a deep umbra mirrors the emotional work of confronting one's own darkness in search of inner light and clarity.

My work is to bring abstract to realism and maybe it is to bring a touch of real to the abstract.
