THANK YOU to everyone who attended, performed or volunteered at our Fundraiser Holiday Party Extravaganza earlier this month!! It was so wonderful to celebrate The Woods all together as a community. The space would not exist without YOU!

Adding up our ticket, bar and raffle sales from the fundraiser to our GoFundMe, we are nearly $6k towards our 10k goal! 🥳

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Fundraiser Performance Party Extravaganza last night! We raised more money towards our year-end goal of $10k, and, most important of all, shared a beautiful evening with our community!

Leanna Grennan is a dance-maker committed to intense, formal experimentation through intimate process and performance. A trained dance/movement therapist, Leanna completed her Master of Science at Sarah Lawrence last year and has since written about the urgency of re-working our collective (re-)orientation towards death and dying. Hers is a somatic, relational inquiry. In dance, social, and therapeutic environments, she encourages expressivity as the throughline and as the bridge to what might be next. This—not without a tinge of romance, kitsch, humor, nostalgia, and embodied & devotional love to what’s here in the room and what has passed before us

Our host with the most for The Woods Fundraiser Holiday Party Extravaganza!!!!

Blaze Ferrer is an interdisciplinary performer and choreographer interested in the mainstreaming of q***rness within the American capitalist hegemony. Blaze makes experiences that express the vibrancy and limits of embodiment through post-Judson choreographic scores and the incorporation of consumerist cultural iconography. As a lead artist, Blaze has made work for Pageant, The Collapsable Hole, Prelude Festival, The Brick Theater, The Exponential Festival, Movement Research@Judson Church, Sundays on Broadway, New Dance Alliance, AUNTS, danceh0l0, Brooklyn Arts Exchange (NEEDING IT), HERE, Dixon Place, and various DIY events. Blaze has performed for and helped generate pieces with Stacy Lynn Smith, Jeff Aaron Bryant, Nora Sorena Casey + Christopher Dennison, Yanira Castro, The Drunkard’s Wife, Radiohole, Ursula Eagly, Londs Reuter, Ilan Bachrach & Robert M. Johanson, minor theater, Sophie Weisskoff, Ásta Bennie Hostetter, Ben Ferber, The Pack and Built For Collapse. Blaze has received funding through Brooklyn Arts Council, NYFA, and Foundation for Contemporary Arts.

‘A super duo inspired by internet dancing, Michel Gondry music videos, and Charli XCX’s extremely viral brat summer. My work is committed to making the invisible as visible as it agrees to be. What I make stems from my inspiration born out of my endless confusion. I like humor and beauty and I like tension and difficulty. I have a rubric that I’m deconstructing so I can achieve beyond what I can fathom and do so with more wisdom. The work is an attempt to merge the necessities and benefits of the organized group (towards policy, agenda, legible accomplishment) with the disorganized group (towards intuition, pleasure, the self maintained). I am contemplating the story, inching towards satire via melodrama, considering the performers’ ability to deliver, and making something that appeals just enough.’

Lu Yim

Lu Yim (b. San Diego, CA) is an artist who works with experimental sound, performance and dance to situate pain and sensation within a q***r and contemporary conversation. Their work has been presented at Performance Space NY, ICA London, Pageant (NY), Center for Performance Research (NY), and Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. They are a 2024-2025 Fellow at A.I.R. Gallery (Brooklyn). They are a 2024-2025 Artist in Residence at Movement Research (NYC).
