đź’– Introducing MarĂa-Colleen Halley đź’–
Colleen (aka Coco) plans her work out based on her vivid dreams. She’s not classically trained, but has a style of very much her own. Sometimes she works from visions she had as long back as 20 years ago.
Some pieces take 3 years to finish - Coco shares. A nomad at heart, as moves around a lot and brings her work all over with her - and that is part of her inspiration.
She started off doing geometric works… sometimes she maps it out completely down to the tiny little dots.
“ My visual works allow me space to be completely free. Other arts (like singing and dancing) feel more controlled. When I got really sick a while ago, I turned to painting. My first piece of art was mixed media, it had been in my head for years. Painting feels solitary, but it helps me get clear and slow down, to breathe deeper and be in my body. It allows me to be weird. I even paint music when I hear it. I see colors in sounds.”
To me, her work feels like a cosmic fairy tale of sorts, and if you look closely, you’ll see so many tiny symbols and secret messages in her paintings.
She dreams of making a children’s book, and I really hope she does.
She’s currently in Pittsburg, but who knows where she’ll land next!
