I love talking about books with the homies so I decided to bring that to the Lit Stoop. Join me (and friends) for the first ever Bookclub read-back on IG live called Read the Room.

For the first installment, we will be diving into the incredible book, Secret Lives of Church ladies by on 10.17.21. It’s definitely a top read of the year for me so if you haven’t gotten a copy then get to it. Come with your questions, thoughts and reactions! See you then

This book review is dedicated to all the Nate Marshalls I have known.

“& for a long time that’s how I let my life happen,
I let my mind tell me a million nos that the world
had implanted in me before I even formed questions.
I let my power be dulled by my fear of fitting.”

Finna is a book that sits on the in between. Of who you say you are and who the world wants you to be. Of home and elsewhere. Of love and the mess we make of it. Nate’s poetry leads us right to that intersection and dares us to choose a ‘me’ to be. Each section poses a new question: who are you? Where do you come from? What does it mean? He does this kind of work through thoughtful verses and familiar landscapes.

If ain’t a 3 piece with mild sauce or a remnant of what makes you feel like home, then I don’t know what is. It’s worth the read, the library hold, and the discomfort of not always knowing what is but what’s next. Get you a copy!

If you are reading this the day it’s posted then show the author some birthday love and if you read this after then tell him which poem does it for you.

In the midst of the craziest two years in our collective history, I took a step back from this page to regroup. It seemed overwhelming to build such a space online when it was hard to feel safe or okay in the present.

I was reminded in this time of what I already knew. Reading and writing will always be my safe spaces. Books bring me such immense joy and always have. There is nothing like a good read to help you learn, reset, heal and feel again.

So, I’m back! Here at to make you feel like how a good book makes you feel. Let’s get reacquainted, what are you reading? ✨

The summer is almost over and it didn’t really feel like it even happened. So, today I’m throwing it back to Puerto Rico 2018 and imagining the blue skies, the sand in my toes and the good book in my lap.

What are your favorite beach/vacation reads??

So, tell me how are you surviving today?

The first half of 2020 challenged everything I thought I knew about myself. I have changed and shape-shifted so much to adapt + survive it all. Even my channel has changed (only a little). Instead of just being a fun passion project about books, I am now exploring how to bring all of myself to the table. How to learn more about visual storytelling.

So, welcome to my very first vlog! Be nice because it wasn’t easy but I’ll get better. Hit the link in my bio
