Địa Đến Thoải: Shapeshifting Q***r and Trans Việt portals from Land to Sea // A multimedia art show and fundraiser benefiting towards deportation defense in our Asian immigrant & refugee communities.
Địa (Earth) and Thoải (Water) hold so much resonance and symbolism in (QT)Việt culture
⟡ They’re in our creation myths, including mountain queen Âu Cơ and ocean dragon lord Lạc Long Quân.
⟡ Proverbs like “còn nước còn tát / with water, there’s hope” and “Ăn quả nhớ kẻ trồng cây / When eating fruit, remember who planted the tree” remind us of our inherit connection to these natural elements.
⟡ Địa (Earth) and Thoải (Water) are two of four elements in mother goddess spiritual worship
Now as we commemorate 50 years of Việt Nam’s independence from U.S. imperialism and centuries of colonial resistance, we bring the spirit of Việt Nam to the present day and invite wholeness, community, belonging, and peace from all the mountains to the lands to the rivers to the seas.
We hope to share our Q***r & Trans Việt magic, shapeshift and transcend beyond what’s possible through a night of sensual fall bites, video reels of our 2023 Đổng Quể group homeland trip exchanging with q***r trans artists in Việt Nam, art shares & more.
