Healthy wetlands support healthy water and thriving communities.

Wetlands filter water, reduce flooding, store carbon, and provide habitat for countless species. As these vital ecosystems disappear, the effects reach far beyond their boundaries, shaping water security, climate stability, and livelihoods worldwide.

Films bring these stories into focus, sharing both the challenges and the solutions while inspiring action to protect wetlands and the life they sustain.

After first connecting at WEFTEC 2025 in Chicago, the PRW&EA Student Chapter at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico invited us to be part of their Earth Day event, inspired by WaterPalooza and designed to engage the next generation in water and environmental awareness.

And this is no ordinary student group. Recently recognized by the Water Environment Federation as the 2025 Student Chapter of the Year, their leadership and commitment to advancing sustainable water solutions is already making waves.

At the heart of the event, a mini film festival featuring three selections from the World Water Film Festival library invited students to experience water challenges through a human lens, offering a fresh perspective on the role they can play in protecting this vital resource.

From Chicago to San Juan, this is the ripple effect in action.

Hereโ€™s to the next generation of water advocates. ๐ŸŒŠ

๐ŸŒ The health of our planet is written in the health of our water.

Rivers, wetlands, lakes, and oceans shape ecosystems, support communities, and sustain life across the globe. When these waters are protected, biodiversity thrives, communities grow stronger, and futures become more secure. When they are at risk, the consequences ripple outward in every direction.

Storytelling brings this connection into focus. Film turns complex environmental challenges into human stories, helping people see what is at stake and what is possible. From ecosystem restoration to community-led solutions, these stories show how action begins with awareness.

๐ŸŽฌ Every story shared is a step toward change.
๐Ÿ’ง Every action helps protect the water that sustains us all.

Happy Earth Day! ๐ŸŒ

๐ŸŒ Big news on Earth Day

Weโ€™re proud to share that the World Water Film Festival is an institutional partner of the Young Climate Prize Cycle 03, launched by The World Around.

This global open call is all about uplifting the next generation of climate leaders, young innovators who are creating real, community-driven solutions to the climate crisis.

At WWFF, we believe storytelling has the power to move people from awareness to action. Being part of this initiative alongside a global network of creatives and climate leaders reinforces our mission to amplify voices that matter and drive meaningful impact through film.

If youโ€™re a young climate advocate with a story, an idea, or a solution, this is your moment. Applications for Young Climate Prize Cycle 03 close on June 30, 2026, at 11:59pm EDT.

Apply now and be part of a global community shaping what comes next. https://theworldaround.org/young-climate-prize

At Hunter College, we sparked a conversation on the ethics of water through film, storytelling, and real-world impact. Now, weโ€™re bringing that energy to Chicago for Chicago Water Week on Monday, May 4.

โ€œPlantando Raรญces en Lago Uruuru,โ€ part of Young Climate Stories, follows a young woman in Bolivia using Indigenous knowledge to remove heavy metals and restore her communityโ€™s lake, proving that one idea can create real change.

Join us in Chicago as we continue to share powerful stories, connect communities, and inspire action through film. Because protecting water starts with all of us.
