Tooting Arts Club’s acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street has returned to New York City following sold-out runs in London where the show debuted in Harrington’s Pie and Mash Shop, the oldest continuously operating pie shop in Britain. Directed by Bill Buckhurst with music supervisor Benjamin Cox and designer Simon Kenny, the working pie-shop envir
onment has been re-created at the Barrow Street Theatre. The cast includes Jeremy Secomb, Siobhan McCarthy, Duncan Smith, Joseph Taylor, Matt Doyle, Alex Finke, Betsy Morgan, and Brad Oscar. Sweeney Todd is produced by Rachel Edwards, Jenny Gersten, Seaview Productions, and Nate Koch, Executive Producer. The London press called the production “an irresistible tasty treat” (Financial Times) and “funny, gripping, unnerving and unforgettable.” (The Times). The Stage called it “a shattering unmissable production.”
The setting in Harringon’s Pie and Mash Shop, which inspires the setting at the Barrow Street Theatre, made the show “the most intimate, immersive evening in town” (The Daily Telegraph). Sweeney Todd was last seen on Broadway in 2005 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre (directed by John Doyle). The 2012 London revival received three Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival. Sweeney Todd debuted on Broadway in 1979 at the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin) and made its West End debut in 1980. The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. In 2007, Tim Burton directed the movie adaptation. The film received two Golden Globe Awards and three Academy Award nominations. For more information, visit www.SweeneyToddNYC.com.

The competition was just as close as one of Sweeney’s shaves, but Judge Turpin has made the difficult decision and has chosen Allison Barr as the winner of our fan art competition, the eyes got him!
