Researchers in Germany have developed an advanced material that combines atmospheric water harvesting with passive cooling, allowing it to collect moisture from the air while helping reduce building temperatures without consuming large amounts of electricity.

The material uses specially engineered porous structures to absorb water v***r from the atmosphere and release it as liquid water under suitable environmental conditions. At the same time, its surface reflects sunlight and radiates heat into the sky, helping cool buildings naturally. Under favorable conditions, laboratory testing has demonstrated water production of up to 60 ounces (approximately 1.8 liters) per day.
Claims that the material cools buildings three times better than conventional air conditioning should be interpreted carefully. Rather than replacing air conditioners, the technology is designed to significantly reduce cooling demand by lowering surface temperatures through passive heat management.
The innovation could help improve water security and reduce energy consumption in hot, water-stressed regions.
