Mourlot Editions

Mourlot Editions The Mourlot Collection contains the lithographs and archives of the famous Atelier Mourlot print shop, which was founded in 1852 in Paris, France.

The Atelier Mourlot, founded in 1852, was a lithographic print shop located in Paris. Mourlot printed illustrated books as well as high quality posters for the French National Museums and major foreign institutions. Vintage Lithographic Prints, originally conceived as announcements for exhibitions, ads for tourism or illustrations for political events, have become collectible works of art in their

own right. Artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Miró were intimately involved in the production of these works and as such, each piece is unique representation of the respective artist's style.

“The love of simplicity, precision and clarity, is totally Western. Today’s rational plastic form does not come from the Mediterranean or the Orient; it comes from the North (of France). The North, younger, quicker less subtle, has seen straight to the heart of the new problem of construction that is posed by modern life”
Read this quote in today’s context and it will take a brand new meaning... we love Léger for his honesty and simplicity! But also his kindness... never judge a book by its cover! ❤️❤️

“Blue has no dimensions, it is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colours are not. They are pre-psychological expanses, red, for example, presupposing a site radiating heat... All colours arouse specific associative ideas, psychologically material or tangible, while blue suggests at most the sea and sky, and they, after all, are in actual, visible nature what is most abstract.”
Yves Klein (1928 — 1962)

That is what we call an artists’ artist... people that know... know how good these people are! They get their inspiration from them... they are not the usual. They are not good at marketing... but they are the real thing!!!
We were lucky because this wild one went to school with Fernand Mourlot when they were 16 yrs old!!
So graceful...

In 1976, Robert Indiana designed the costumes for the Santa Fe Opera production of Gertrude Stein: “The Mother of us All”... we printed the Portfolio in 1977.
Here is a B.A.T proof, initialed and corrected in the margins by the artist.
(The Mother of Us All is a two-act opera composed by Virgil Thomson to a libretto by Gertrude Stein. She wrote the libretto in the winter of 1945–46, sending it to Thomson in March of 1946; he began the score that October, shortly after Stein's death in July, and completed it early in 1947. [1] The opera chronicles the life of Susan B. Anthony, one of the major figures in the fight for women's suffrage in the United States.)

Édouard Manet once said about insults that:
“No one knows what it feels like to be constantly insulted. It sickens and destroys you… The fools! They’ve never stopped telling me I’m inconsistent; they couldn’t have said anything more flattering.”
