Grateful to have Joshua Blue, Tenor on the roster! See him in the new Missy Mazzoli opera "Lincoln in the Bardo" at the The Metropolitan Opera this October.
It's 11:11pm, today I sang a music rehearsal for Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek's new opera "Lincoln in the Bardo" at The Metropolitan Opera in a room filled with artists who I so deeply adore, look up to and respect for their artistry yes, but also for their humanity, their impish playfulness, their joy.
Leading up to today I've been fighting some MASSIVE imposter syndrome. I love singing opera, I love making art, I have dedicated my life to being an infinitesimal part of something humans have participated in as long as we've had the capacity to create, but I was still so sure I wasn't meant to be in that room. The feeling I recieved from that rehearsal was one of such support and affirmation. It validated all the work I have put in to get to today, both short term and big picture™️, as well as my deepest desire to bring my authentic self into every opportunity I am given to make art.
I felt like I was among safe and caring collaborators, collegues, and friends both younger and older. To be reassured by Christine Goerke, to share another stage with Janai Brugger. To reconnect with my golf course Wotan, Kyle Albertson. To share this role with someone I came up in young artist programs with, Terrence Chin-Loy!
What a rush, and also casually my first time meeting and working with Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Wild.
It's only day 3, but "Lincoln in the Bardo" is already shaping up to be one of the wildest experiences of pure imaginative, creative, deeply collaborative art making I've been a part of here at the Met. I simply cannot wait to see how it continues to grow, and most importantly, to get to share it with as many people as we can each and every performance.
Anyways, they've scheduled a horseback riding lesson for me and some cast mates this weekend.
Just another thread in life's rich tapestry 💕
