Zoya Frolova and Janis Jakobsons: Power¿
👁️‍🗨️
Human lives seem to extend from Light to Dark, from Gold to Black.
The Authorities force a parallel amplitude upon each individual life.

Jakobsons’s installation at exhibition “Power¿” is a large gilded screen made of woven paper covered with gold leaf. Its materials evoke both eternity and transience, while the screen itself recalls enduring images of authority, concealment, and display across time and cultures. His gilded objects from the Awards series offer an ironic interpretation of inflated self-esteem and the rituals of recognition.
🖋️
Beauty becomes a camouflage, covering the petrified essence of the authorities slogans and banners.
We must enjoy this imitated beauty, as we would enjoy a good game.

Well, Rukh Art Hub simply couldn’t stay away from something as irresistible as Art Basel Paris week.
👇
So this October, we’re joining the celebration of art, ideas, ch*****ne, impossible schedules, and the particular kind of beautiful chaos that takes over Paris for one week a year.

And we’re bringing RESONANT LIGHT with us.

Opening in the Marais, the exhibition brings together five international artists: Bernard Tirtiaux, Shaul Tzemach, Roman Minin, Olena Morozova, and Alexej Sachov.

Resonant Light explores what happens between light, matter, memory, technology, nature, and perception. It begins with things that are often almost impossible to hold onto: a shift in light, an intuition, a memory, a fragment of code, a trace left in matter or nature.

The artist catches the signal, transforms it, amplifies it, and passes it on.

Light becomes sculpture. Code becomes matter. Memory becomes image. And the viewer becomes part of the resonance.
❤️
So yes, we’re coming to Paris.

Come see the exhibition, meet the artists, have a glass of ch*****ne with us, and be part of this very special week.

POWER¿ is open now.

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday and spent the evening with us, looked, talked, asked questions, laughed, and shared this moment with us.

We are incredibly happy with how POWER¿ came together. Seeing the works of Zoya Frolova and Janis Jakobsons in the space, and watching the exhibition come alive through all of you, made the evening truly special.

Thank you for sharing this joy with us. 🤍

And now, a little photo diary from the opening through the eyes of our dear photographer Dinara.

POWER¿ opens today in New York.

The installation is complete. Last night, Zoia Frolova stayed at the gallery until 11 pm, weaving a wreath from metal shavings, a wreath for the politicians’ grave.

Today, the work meets its audience.

When I saw the first images from NIGHT, Maurizio Cattelan’s new exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie, I knew I couldn’t wait. I simply got in the car and drove to Berlin. 400 km there and back didn’t seem like an argument at all.

And I definitely didn’t regret it. NIGHT is one of the strongest exhibitions I’ve seen recently.

Cattelan says, “Night is not simply the absence of light. It is a condition.” And perhaps that is the best key to the whole exhibition. It is not about darkness. It is about a state in which our usual sense of certainty begins to disappear.

Cattelan turns Mies van der Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie into something close to a contemporary church, a space where faith is replaced by questions. Two works hold this “church” together.

Him (2001) looks like a small child kneeling in prayer. You come closer and realise you are looking at Hi**er. In Berlin, the work feels particularly disturbing. Is this repentance, a request for forgiveness, or simply the performance of it?

High above, directly opposite, is Dawn (2007). A female figure with outstretched arms and pierced palms is enclosed in a transport crate and, importantly, turned away from the viewer. A crucifixion that does not even give us a face to hold on to.

Together, Him and Dawn create the vertical axis of the exhibition. Prayer and crucifixion, guilt and sacrifice, repentance and the impossibility of easy forgiveness.

Then there is Purgatory (2026), a scaled down Brandenburg Gate. A monument becomes human in scale and turns into a threshold. For Cattelan, purgatory is neither condemnation nor salvation. It is a state of suspension where transformation is still possible.

That feeling continues in Novecento, a taxidermied horse hanging from the ceiling. A symbol of strength and freedom is completely immobilised. Cattelan described the work as a kind of self portrait:

“It was like having a very good car, with the engine revved up, but in neutral.”

All that power. The engine is roaring. And you are going nowhere.
