Counting down the days until the Lightning Bolt USA, let’s meet one of the three judges.

With a design career stretching back to the late 70s, there’s no one more qualified to scrutinize the 2023 Lightning Bolt entries than Head of BMW Motorrad Design, Edgar Heinrich.

Since his appointment in 2012, Edgar has revolutionized the entire BMW Motorrad product range. From the R 1200 GS travel enduro icon, to the S 1000 RR superbike, and the development of the avant-garde BMW CE 04 electric scooter — he has taken on and mastered every challenge!

⚡Meet the Judges⚡

John the Painter is the mastermind behind nearly everything coming out of Indian Larry Motorcycles today. Inspired by watching his father mess around with pinstriping and airbrushing, John started painting in 1983. After spending some time in the autobody industry, he transitioned to motorcycles in 1994 and by 1998, it became a full-time gig.

One of the few things John struggles with is playing nicely with others, but he’s working hard at that every day.
