Who is Emilio Garcia?

Emilio Garcia is an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and currently based in New York City.
As the hearing child of two Deaf parents (CODA), Emilio developed a lifelong passion for communication and language accessibility. Inspired by his upbringing within the Deaf community, he pursued a career in American Sign Language interpreting. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Communications, he spent three years specializing in ASL video translation.
Emilio has extensive experience providing language access across the political landscape, interpreting at the local, state, and federal levels for elected officials and government agencies.
After several years as a freelance interpreter, he transitioned into public service, becoming the first staff American Sign Language interpreter hired to serve in the Office of the Mayor at New York City Hall.
Following nearly five years in public service, Emilio returned to independent contracting work, where he has enjoyed reconnecting with the Deaf community through a wide range of interpreting assignments. His work includes theater productions, government events, conferences, concerts, and community programs.
Committed to advancing accessibility and meaningful communication, Emilio remains dedicated to serving the Deaf community and helping create more inclusive spaces through language access.
