Dang, thought this would get published in a haiku magazine I liked. I’ll have to improve…This one is about our floods in the Texas Hill Country. When it rains, it tends to flood, so the fish in a clear stream will disappear under dark brown floodwater upstream, which sometimes carry with them big trees. Our last flood was like that. Branches, bushes, trees, trucks, and even houses get carried down flooded rivers.

I see many fellow poets leaving Instagram due to low engagement over the years. I remember when I’d have a like or two many years ago, but I share poetry because it’s fun to share. I write for joy. It’s like breathing, but if I couldn’t write, I’d write the poem in my mind, like a native (from any country) might do. These would be the words in the heart, about nature and love and spirituality and the universe. This poem is also about a century plant (Illustration by Vintage illustrations) which blooms once a year. I have an idea that a poet will write one poem they will be remembered by, which may be egoistic but I’m unsure. These poem can become popular centuries later, maybe in a niche area, like the haiku. Haha Algorithms change, people change, companies die, regardless, what should be said will be said.
