Ippodo Gallery is honored to present the U.S. debut of work by Kunimasa Aoki, winner of the 2025 LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize, selected from more than 4,500 submissions worldwide.
Working in the ancient coil-building tradition of Jomon pottery, Aoki builds monumental terracotta forms and surrenders them to the forces of gravity, heat, and pressure—embracing the cracks and distortions that emerge as the clay finds its final form.
In his own words:
"I realized that clay was not simply a material for making shapes, but something alive—constantly changing under gravity and pressure. That sensation remains deeply connected to my work today."
Experience his work for the first time in the United States, on view now as part of Transforming Nature at Aspen Art Fair.
