As the exhibition opens at in Copenhagen’s Søndermarken, we speak to Marina Abramović about staging death, opera’s enduring drama, and why Callas remains a haunting muse.

We are thrilled to present the gorgeous paintings of Blanquita Sullivan () for her solo exhibition, Tierra Encantada. The opening reception will be First Friday, Dec 5, 6 — 9 at . We can’t wait to have our space filled with these larger than life works.

Blanquita Sullivan is an interdisciplinary artist who weaves together painting, magical realism,
and storytelling to explore memory, home, and ancestral presence. Rooted in personal and
collective histories, her paintings remind us of our connection to our bodies, the land, the lingering past,
and the ghosts who live among us. Working in oil, acrylic, gold leaf, mixed textiles, and tile, Blanquita
creates bigger than life paintings.

With a background in fashion design and retail, she has spent 20+ years at sewing machines, cutting
tables, and in fitting rooms. These experiences have allowed her to hear and translate the lived stories
of women, their relationships with their bodies, and self-image to seamlessly be integrated into her
portraiture work.

Drawing from family archives, oral histories, shared stories, and imagined scenes, Blanquita constructs
dreamlike landscapes and interiors that blur the boundaries between reality and myth. Figures are
surrounded by symbolic objects, exist in inhabited spaces, and wear garments that speak to identity,
lineage, and transformation. Her paintings serve as acts of remembrance telling us pieces of layered
intergenerational stories.

In 2025, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the first nuclear test at the Trinity site in New Mexico. International Day against Nuclear Tests stands as a solemn reminder of the devastating impact that nuclear weapons testing or any other nuclear explosions can have on our planet, its inhabitants, and in particular the uranium miners and ‘downwinders’ in New Mexico who have still not been adequately compensated for their suffering.

Donald Woodman (my husband and collaborator on the “Holocaust Project”) and I want to remind people of the profound responsibility we all share in preserving our world and its future. We stand alongside all those who believe in the possibility of change, who understand that our collective efforts can create a safer world. To learn more about the advocacy around a nuclear-weapons-free world, see the link in bio.

Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman, “Trinity Site” from “Nuclear Waste(d)”, 1989. Sprayed acrylic, oil and photography on photo linen. 16 x 20 in.

・・・
Eileen Agar was one of the few women involved in the Surrealist movement in Britain.

She experimented with form, materials, and the unconscious, creating works that challenged traditional ideas of art and femininity.

Despite exhibiting with major figures like Dalí and Miró, her contributions were often overlooked or minimized by critics and history.

Her story is a reminder of how many voices in art remain underappreciated.
