He was 106. He was the LAST ONE.
On July 25th, America lost Joseph Williams of Wakulla County, Florida - the last known living WWII veteran in his county.
He was drafted into a SEGREGATED U.S. Navy.
He served in the Pacific aboard the USS Charles Ausburne, fighting in the brutal battles of the Philippines and Okinawa.
When he came home, he didn’t ask for anything.
He used the GI Bill to learn to paint, became a house painter until his 70s, volunteered as a firefighter, and spent his life helping his neighbors.
In 2024, at 105 years old, he took an Honor Flight to see the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. for the FIRST time.
His advice for a long life will hit you hard:
"We may be different colors, but we bleed the same blood. If we could learn that, the world would be better off."
We are losing our WWII heroes one by one. There are less than 1% left.
