Amelia Sie & Friends take us on an enchanting exploration of scordatura from seventeenth century Italian, German, and Scottish, to the modern fiddle of Appalachia.

Scordatura is a tuning of a string instrument that is different from the normal, standard tuning. It typically attempts to allow special effects or unusual chords or timbre.

2024 Bohemians Piano Competition Winner, Wilson Liu, performs Haydn Concerto in D Major, Hob.XVIII/11 with the Arrow Quartet (orchestral reduction for string quartet). Ticket link in bio 🎟️

10-year-old pianist Wilson Liu comes from California. At the age of 7, he was admitted to The Juilliard School Pre-College Division. Wilson has won numerous piano competitions, including the Grand Prize in the XIV Chopin Piano Competition, Kaufman Music Center International Youth, 5th Florida Young Artists, Chicago International and others.

The Arrow Quartet is dedicated to creating a joyful and inclusive chamber music experience with an eye towards historically informed performance practice. Wilson Liu and the Arrow Quartet will perform other solo and ensemble pieces complementing the Haydn keyboard concerto.

November 4, 2024 marks 100 years since the death of French composer, Gabriel Fauré. The Bohemians have a long tradition of honoring specific composers through special concerts, and this season we are delighted to highlight various genres of Fauré’s works.

The program will include No. 6 in D-flat Major.
Piano four-hands will include the playful Dolly Suite - composed for the daughter of the composer’s mistress, Emma Bardac.

The program will conclude with the famous Violin Sonata No. 1 and a group of songs, including Prison, Adieu, Mandoline, Tristesse, Au Bord De L’eau, and Chanson d’amour.

Bohemians Young Artists Piano Competition Finalist, Aaron Liu is a Junior at Syosset High School in Long Island, New York. He began to learn piano at age 5. He also plays clarinet in high school wind ensemble. Aaron has been pursuing additional music education and piano study in Precollege at Manhattan School of Music under Ms. Robin Freund- Epstein He is honored to be the recipient of “The Rochlis Family Foundation Precollege Scholarship” for 2022-23 and “The Constance Keene Precollege Scholarship” for 2023-24 at Manhattan School of Music. He performed at the 16th Annual NYSSMA Piano Showcase in Rochester, New York in 2022. He also won The Symphony of Westchester’s Young Artist Competition and performed a Mozart concerto with the Symphony of Westchester in the Young Artist Showcase Concert in 2023. He was a finalist in Nashville International Piano Competition in Apr 2023. He was also selected to present in Claudette Sorel Piano Fellows Program in SUNY at Fredonia in Nov 2023. In his spare time, Aaron learns painting from his mom, who is an oil painting artist.

Bohemians Young Artists Piano Competition Finalist, 10-year-old Wilson Liu, comes from California. At the age of 7, he was admitted to The Juilliard School Pre-College Division studying with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone. Wilson was fortunate to win the Bachauer Prize with full scholarship on his first year in Juilliard, and was nominated into the Artemisia Foundation as the youngest fellow where he’s received many opportunities to perform and work with great pedagogues. Recently, he participated in a film for “Now Hear This” presented by Great Performances on PBS. He also as the youngest guest, enjoyed performing with The Little Orchestra Society Kids, “Carnival of the Animals”. Wilson has won numerous piano competitions, including the Grand Prize in the XIV Chopin Piano Competition Hartford. In the competitions of 5th Florida Young Artists, Chicago international, WPTA international in Singapore, Chopin Avenue in Hong Kong, Elevato International in Austria, and the “Citta di Sarzana” Music Competition in Italy, etc., Wilson won top awards and garnered high accolades. Most recently, he won the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition and got the opportunity to perform with PCSO.

Bohemians Young Artists Piano Competition Finalist, Effie Li, 16, began studying piano at 4 years old with her aunt and started studying with Professor Ingrid Clarfield at 9 years old. As a duet team, Effie and her sister won second place in the national division of the MTNA Senior Piano Duet Competition. As a soloist, Effie won first place in the Piano Teachers Congress of New York Honors Program Competition. She also won second place in the Joseph Israel Bookstaber Memorial Competition, along with the silver award in the Bravura Young Artists Concerto Competition. She has also been a place winner for multiple years in the NJMTA Young Musicians Competition. Effie has performed in prestigious venues including Kaufman Center, NJPAC, Carnegie Hall, and in masterclasses with John Perry and Yoheved Kaplinsky. She also enjoys performing piano in nursing/senior homes.

Dinners were common In the early days of the Bohemians, honoring members such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ignace Jan Paderewski, Jascha Heifetz, and Rafael Joseffy. Resuming this tradition with a cocktail hour in 2024, our benefit will raise funds to support the finalists of our 2nd annual Bohemians Young Artists Piano Competition.

Our gracious host, Martin Rook, will delight with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Our musical guest will be Timothy Yang - third-prize winner from our 2022 Competition. Space will be limited and the purchase of tickets is required in advance.
