Over the past few weeks, Meghalaya Unboxed! explored these many threads through craft, food, film, music and shared experiences.
Our heartfelt thanks to the artists, artisans, chefs, filmmakers, musicians, collaborators, guests and everyone who spent time with us.
The journey began with an interactive bamboo weaving installation and a screening of “In the Making of U Shylliah” by Amethyst Susngi (Amethyst Susngi) . Lakadong turmeric inspired food by Angela Sangma (Anjee)and a performance by Skubo Project (SKUBO PROJECT) featuring Encenia Challam (Encenia Challam) set the tone for the opening, with special guest Lily Swain (Lily Sawian) joining us for the evening.
On World Bamboo Day, the focus shifted from looking to doing. Dakti (DAKTI ) led a bamboo weaving workshop with master artisan, Dameris KHONGWET and Sypril Khongwet, while Chef Dalarympei Kharmawphlang (Dalarympei Sabrina) brought bamboo shoot pickling to the table. A tasting spread centred around bamboo, Lakadong turmeric drinks and a screening of “Khoh Ki Bo”, directed by Gautam Syiem (Gautam Namshai Syiem) and Dondor Lyngdoh (Dondor Eddie Lyngdoh ) and presented by the Department of Arts and Culture (arts_and_culture_meghalaya ), Government of Meghalaya, carried the celebration through the day.
Music by Skubo Project featuring Encenia Challam and food by OShillong (OShillong) brought the programme to a close.
Meghalaya Unboxed! may have come to an end, but the conversations, flavours and stories it brought together continue to travel with us.
