☀️🌻 Happy “Sun”-day, friends. ☀️🌻
💔 I haven’t shared much here since losing my dear friend in September. The outpouring of love and support has meant so much to me, but at times it became overwhelming. I needed to step back, turn inward, and focus on my own grief instead of instinctively caring for everyone else in my usual empath ways.
💔 Even over a month later, it still feels surreal. I sometimes imagine showing up at his LA apartment like I always did and hearing his voice say, “C’mon in,” with his pup waiting too. It is hard to fully grasp that he is gone, but somewhere in my heart, I feel he is not gone, just a little fuzzy, like there is a thin veil between where I am and where he has gone.
💔 Attending his Celebration of Life in California last month was both heartbreaking and healing. Being surrounded by friends from elementary school through adulthood and being welcomed by his loved ones and friends reminded me how much connection and love he brought into our lives. One dear friend opened a time capsule he and Derrick had planned for a milestone birthday. Decades-old photos showed nearly half of us sitting at that table and for a moment it felt like no years had passed at all.
💔 Being with these friends reignited my creative spark which has dimmed over the past year. Derrick’s memory continues to inspire me to create, laugh, and find light even in loss. I keep his memory alive through photos, videos, messages, and stories. Sharing the moments, memes, and little things that would make him laugh helps me feel connected to him and reminds me to cherish joy in everyday life.
🌞✨ Wishing you a beautiful week ahead. Take care of yourself and the ones you love, cherish memories, and keep shining your light. 🌞✨
