Congratulations to Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, and Noynoy Froilan on being named National Artists of The Philippines. This is the highest national honor given to Filipinos who have made significant contributions for Philippine Arts and Culture.

Dr. Tiongson is one of the featured keynote speakers in Stages of Resistance, October 1 and 2, in New York City.

Ma-Yi Theater Company mourns the loss of one of its founding members Luz de Leon. A dedicated advocate for Filipino American communities, Luz helped organize Ma-Yi in its infancy. We barely knew what we were doing and she was there to encourage us to keep going. Thank you, Ate Luz.

We held our community bowl-a-thon last night Frames Bowling Lounge. It was an evening of fun, food, and friends. Thanks to all who came out to break bread with us. FANHS | Metro New York Chapter 2G Productions. Broadway Barkada Pink Fang and the many ad hoc teams!

It was so good, we're going to do it three more times.

We held the showcase for our first free playwriting workshop on August 10, 2026. Lisa Sanaye Dring led eight writers through an 8-week writing course, and put together an ensemble of actors and directors to bring what they wrote to life. What an amazing evening.

Thank you to all who came to support this first cohort of playwrights!

Multi-awarded playwright, filmmaker, journalist, and veteran activist. A Martial Law survivor and author of the landmark play "Pagsambang Bayan."

CHRIS MILLADO
Acclaimed playwright, director, educator, and former Vice President and Artistic Director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Mr. Millado was instrumental in the formation of Ma-Yi Theater Company, and several other U.S.-based theater groups.

Ma-Yi is bringing together an all-star lineup of Filipino artists, scholars, writers, and activists for STAGES OF RESISTANCE: Theater, Memory, and the Politics of Truth.

The two-day gathering will examine how theater and performance preserve political memory, bear witness to injustice, challenge historical erasure, and keep truth alive—especially under dictatorship, censorship, and repression. It hopes to connect the lessons of past resistance to the struggles of the present, strengthen dialogue between artists, scholars, activists, and audiences, and affirm theater’s power as an instrument of public memory and collective action.

Keynote speakers Nicanor Tiongson and Bonifacio Ilagan lead an extraordinary group featuring Chris Millado, Jerry Respeto, Nicolas Pichay, Roland Tolentino, Judy Taguiwalo, Sarah Raymundo, Teddy Casiño, Joi Barrios, and moderators Gina Apostol, and Neferti Tadiar.
