Hi, if you don’t know me I’m Danika, the creator of TCF.

This past year at TCF we’ve been celebrating the voices of classical musicians. It’s been such a journey and I’ve been one on my own as I transitioned from finishing grad school to full time work.

During that time I’ve asked myself, am I still a musician? What inspires me, what makes me want to create. And as time went by, I realized the voices I want to feature has not shifted but has grown in focus.

We are rebranding as The Creative Filipino to focus on Filipinos all over the world in the performing arts. We want to feature classical, contemporary and jazz musicians, educators, arts administrators, poets, playwrights, directors, actors, dancers and many more.

Our focus will have the capacity for two featured artists per month, we’ll still be continuing our series and if you’re an artist in the New York area, we’ll be starting a new in person interview series with one in the Philippines possibly starting next year.

We are asking for a new call for submissions for all performing artists and if you’ve already submitted, don’t worry, we will get to you. If you‘d like to also help us create, send us a message! Here’s the link to our new google form: https://forms.gle/RsbsXV1A4tnGgu4r6

Nicolo Paulo Echague

is currently an undergraduate of Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Prof. Mary Anne Espina at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.

His interest in music began when he was 10 yrs old , experimenting with the guitar, drums, and basic note reading, finally resolving his passion with the piano at the age of 13.

He began teaching the craft in 2009 and has provided music lessons under various institutions such as the WAMES School of Music (2017-2019) and the Brillo School of Music to this day. He is also an active freelance musician and member of the UST Piano Department.

While still in his undergraduate studies, he performed as a pianist in the annual Sampung Mga Daliri and The Pasinaya Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In addition to this, he also has an inclination towards Jazz with several Masterclasses attended: Tokyo Manila Jazz Festival, Impromazurka - Artur Dutkiewicz, and Classical meets Jazz Masterclass - Francois Botha, these on top of more masterclasses, that further developed his strong musical and technical foundation.

Presently, he's currently refining the pieces for his final recital in December 2021.

Emil Christian Francisco .violinist

A graduate from University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Bachelor of Music in Music Education with Emphasis in Violin under Ramon Ibero.

He started playing the violin at the age of 11 and became a member of The Meycauayan Stabat Orchestra (2009 - 2012).  During in his High school days in La Consolacion College Valenzuela he performs a solo violin during school events both inside and outside their campus.

During College, he was a member of the UST Symphony Orchestra performing regularly at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

He taught violin at Yamaha School of Music and Key Strings Music School from 2012-2013, he also taught at WAMES School of Music. A Home Service Violin teacher for more than 10 years.

At present he has his own studio at 1001 G. Tolentino St. Sampaloc Manila, also teaching at OB Montessori Center in Las Pinas as a music teacher and choir moderator and a member of Serenade Society, Nueno Classico and Prestigious Strings Manila.

Classical musician Inna Montesclaros is a passionate concert pianist from the Philippines, finished her Bachelor of Music Degree at the Royal College of Music in London, with Prof. Ian Jones and her Master of Arts Degree and her Advanced Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Prof. Ian Fountain. For her studies, she was honored to have been awarded scholarships throughout, and finished with a First, Honors and Distinction.

In recent years, she has had opportunities to perform solo concerts in various venues from the Duke’s Hall in London to the Teatro Municipal de Las Condes in Santiago, Chile; from the Kalayaan Hall in New York City to the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila, along with concert halls in Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, Hungary, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, etc. In 2020, apart from performances in Tokyo and Kyoto, the many plans to concertize around the world were unfortunately halted due to the pandemic’s lockdown.

Inna is also a laureate of both national and international music competitions. In July 2009, she was awarded Gold Prize at the 2009 Asia International Piano Academy Festival and Competition in Cheonan, South Korea, the Silver Prize at the 1st International Piano Competition in Hanoi, Vietnam – (September 2010), and the Bronze Prize & Sole Winner, Concerto B Category, at the 4th International Chopin Piano Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (November, 2010).

In March 2021, she launched LIKHA: Window of Hope, the beginning of a new series featuring collaborations between artists and art forms.
She herself, is a painter and continues to explore every avenue to grow more fully into a holistic artist.

Philippine-born Stephen Joven-Lee began piano studies at age 10. One year later, he moved to New York City where he studied with Dr. Amy E. Gustafson and Dr. Jose Ramon Mendez on a full scholarship. Joven-Lee is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he studied under Professor Alvin Chow. He was the recipient of Oberlin’s Rudolf Serkin Prize and John Elvin Prize for excellence in piano performance, as well as the Faustina Hurlbutt Prize for outstanding graduating student in piano. He went on to receive a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School where he studied under Professor Julian Martin. Joven-Lee is an award winner of almost two-dozen national and international competitions. This has led him to perform in many renowned halls including Carnegie Weill Hall (NY), Severance Reinberger Hall (OH), Steinway Hall (NY & OH), DiMenna Center (NY), Yamaha Piano Salon (NY). He has had the opportunity to perform Liszt’s 1st Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Bloomingdale Orchestra.

Alongside performance, Joven-Lee is a passionate teacher and scholar. Certain of his own piano students have gone on to receive awards at competitions, and have performed in venues including Carnegie Weill Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall. He also teaches music theory and ear-training classes at the Juilliard School to undergraduate and pre-college level students. As a scholar, Joven-Lee has done research and writing to be published for the Juilliard Orchestra program notes. Joven-Lee has been elected as a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda - National Music Honor Society in recognition of the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship.
